Planning for and Recovering from a failed PC System

Hi Here's my 2 cents @learninmypc If you're not going to create regular backup images, then don't write over the media you created for XP pro. You need to do a little research and find out what backup images are. I explained;) them in post #24
Seriously, I'm a little tired of hearing how poor you are. Don't mean to to be mean, but you post that in every reply you make here on TS, as a excuse for not doing some thing suggested to you by a tech.;):D

Capture25.JPG Hi! Contrary to what some members think, this thread is about more then backup images. It's also about other ways to recover your PC when it fails to boot. Most of my posts are about W10, but all operating system suggestions are welcome. If you have other ways to recover and plan for a failed system. I would like to hear them.
Thanks to everyone that that has participated on this thread. You are appreciated. I think it's a good thread and I hope TS members read it and are helped. A TS member suggested I start this thread, and I did and I'm glad I started it.

You're right. :)
12.4 GBs out of 186 GBs.
I'm glad you caught that. :)
My eyes aren't as good as they used to be.
My mind either. :(

How long might it take to "copy/image" it?

What program are you using to create the image. I would guess with Macrium Reflect it will take 15-20 minutes.
It will take longer using DVD,s compared to a external drive. Why is that important?

Imaging only 15GB to another harddisk takes less than 10 minutes and less than 10 minutes for restoration. For USB 2.0 it would take 20 minutes or longer. Burning to DVD would be slightly slower than USB 2.0. How much slower depends on burn rate. However if you need the backups, the length of time to create doesn't matter.

as it turns out, the disc I was using had something else on it so using macrium didn't work, yet.
