Port&ip

A port is a door you can open in your router. I assume you want to host a game so your buddy and you can play. You have to go into the router and find a way to open a listening port (let's say 40191..but the game will tell you which port(s) or port range it wants). Then you set the trigger port (prob the same port) then you point that to your computer. to find your internal IP just type "CMD" (without the quotes) on the search bar (bottom left of desktop) when CMD pops up under apps. Left Click that to run it and a black window pops up. Type IPCONFIG and you will see your IP it will be like 192.168.0.90 (something like that).

As far as your buddy is concerned you need to give him your public facing IP. to get that just use Google and search what is my IP. Give that number to your buddy. it's like your phone number for the computer. Then your buddy uses your public IP to contact your computer, knocking on the right door (port) and your router forwards the traffic to the right computer.

All that will change from time to time with power outages. So you will have to put in new numbers once in a while and give your buddy new external IP addresses from time to time. There are ways around that but baby steps eh? =)
