i recently downloaded a movie. extracted it. and tried to watch it on windows media player. all i got was sound so i tried again and noticed it failed to download one of the codecs. what could be the problem?

download the XP_Codec_Pack-2.3.2 and see if that helps. I u google it I think u will find it.

Good Luck

The easiest non-codec way to watch the video is to download GOM Player. It has all the 'codecs' you can get for wmp built in so you wont have to use wmp anymore. You can even uninstall wmp if you want becaus GOM Player is smaller. The link is below.

alright sweet. i just decided to download gom cause i still haven't found the codecs and i don't really like wmp anyway. but thanks

VLC also brings its own codecs to the table, so you could use that as well. I'm always a bit wary of codec packs.
