Problem with PC recognizing new 1gb ram

Ok, so I decided its time to order some more ram for my INTEL D845GVS1

I used the scan tool from crucial, and ordered accordingly, from a trustworthey seller on ebay....

Right now I am running on....sob...256mb of ram.

When I installed the new 1gb ram, it says it decreased the memory size to 24 mb and when i go into the bios, it is only 24mb... Now im pretty sure it SHOULD be 1024 mb.

Should I look into flashin the bios? Im good with computers, but the would be new for me...

heres my specs

How hard would it be TO flash the bios, what all will i need?

I usually, these days, do not post twice in different threads in one day.

But, you said "I used the scan tool from crucial, and ordered accordingly, from a trustworthey seller on ebay...."

Now! What the heck does that tell anyone - 'ordered accordingly'.

Just tell us what you ordered and from who - please!

Ok, so now I have got the flash bios utility to work, but now i have no onboard usb ports, only the pci usb card I have...

AAND STILL CANT GET MY RAM TO WORK!!

upon boot... it says "decrease memory size press f4 to continue"

Also, when I go into the bios, I see that the original 256 ram has been decreased to 24mb, and my 1gb stick shows up as 32mb.........

SOMEBODY PLZ 0PLZ PLZ HELP.....

tHE CRUCIAL SCAN SAYS THAT THIS RAM IS COMPATIBLE ....WTF...IM GETTIN PISSD

OK, when I try only puttin in the one stick, it will not do nothing. It turns on, but no screen .....nothing, but when they are both in, the bios sees both of them, but it sees them as like 24mb and 32mb.. And it says something like they slots are not initiated.

If I can only get the 1gb stick to work, i would care to lose the 256, cause i plan on ordering another 1gb in the future.

The usb ports should be fine...in my perspective, those are drivers installed in windows arent they?

I'll try the cmos battery....see if that does anything.....

ok just read ur last post....thanks for the info....I feal like an idot now thanks..lmao... any idea if this thing could be overclocked tho....been looking around for a week or so now...but havent found much out...most ppl just saying it can be done....or NO it cant be done...or yes it can etc etc ect

could you enlighten me?

could you make some sense of what the memory bus means?

it says real clock 133mhz.....is that what i need? 133mhz ram?

Sorry, there are limits to what your board can do and you are not likely to find a way around that one.
See if you can trade your PC3200 stick for some PC2700

Right about the clock.

You have a "real" clock speed of 133 MHz which can be doubled to an "effective" speed of 266 MHz by using DDR. To use what RAM you have bought, your system would have to have a "real" clock speed of 200MHz, which would then be bumped to 400 MHz by the DDR

ok that helps me...in understanding what these figures mean, any way....I use aida32 for my sys-info...

But what is the difference between "real clock" of 133mhz
and "effective clock" runnin at 267 mhz
