Question about XP Pro

While I use my Win/98se primarily as a file server (aka, offline), it still can go online when necessary.

MS update can be disabled for your XP, but the issue is to
  1. ensure you have a 3rd party firewall for it (likely hard to find now)
  2. try to match the Public Profile settings from the MS firewall
  3. get an AV installed and make sure it's kept up do date.

Ok, mine can go offline since it is on wifi now. I have avast installed. I was able to install some MS updates so Iwill now turn them off.I will try to find a 3rd party firewall Your #2 is over my head. Otherwise, thank you :)

An image of the original configuration is good to have.
As time goes on you will make changes so newer images are needed so you won't need to start from scratch if you need to install your system again.

I doubt a CD or DVD will hold that much. :(
If you do get a usb drive format it as NTFS & not Fat 32.

As for a 3rd party firewall, is Comodo good enough? I do have it installed, would appreciate your opinion/suggestion .
