RAM and SSD prices will soon plummet due to oversupply and weak demand

10% decrease. WoopDiDoooDaaDay.

Do you really think I'd hold off purchasing a $100-200 computer component, just because I can't afford that extra 10%?

How bizarre.
Wake me up when it's minimum 20% discount.

You do realize that memory prices are actually at historic lows already, yes? In other words, unlike the "fake" reduction of prices in SSDs which are NOT yet at historic low prices. At least not the 1TB SATA versions. Smaller capacities may be though.

I'm hoping that by the time motherboards with PCIe 5 and DDR5 come out, I can get 100TB of storage solely through M.2 that doesn't cost thousands...

I won't upgrade until I can :)

PCI-E 4.0 NVME SSD are a nice pice. if you getting a motherboard withouth that annoying 4 pin connector then you can talk about speed- a good 5xxx amd gpu a lot of ram. or just wait for pcie 5.0-7.0 and put that pcie 3.0 gpus on test again. dont buy motherboard with that 4 pin connector if you don have right exspensive powersupply ++80 pins mb asus prime h470-PLUS https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/31965283
for later updating to x570 find a motherboard withouth 4 pin connctor

gigabyte x570 UD

You don't have to plug in that annoying 4 pin. Ryzen won't use more than the 8 pin power connector can provide unless you're doing extreme overclocking with liquid nitrogen or something.

In the good old days, when someone complained that their computer was slow, you'd point them towards more RAM and a HDD clean.

Now that people have SSD, computers ac t faster than ever, and now that most computers come with 8 - 16GB RAM, I'd say they fill duties faster than ever as well.

"More RAM is something I's say only gamers and enthusiasts are focused on. Many have convinced themselves they need no more than 16GB. Anyone with 32GB or more probably already has it.

Enthusiasts know DDR5 is coming soon.

I'd say DDR4 RAM is going to sit on shelves even longer and suffer a price crash when DDR5 comes to market.

RAM prices only really spiked due to the 2017 - 2019 run up with cryptocurrency.

DDR5 is at least a year away and people will have to decide if there is any real need for it. For your average user, and even for people like video editors and intense gamers, there may not be any call for it for two or more years, since the economy is staggering all around the world and money will be a tight thing ...

Is there something a pci-e 3.0 NvME drive can't do that a 4.0 drive can? Not knocking on the upgrade just curious about the comment?
If you are copying or moving large files consistently then the faster the better for ssd drives. However Gen4 does not load games faster, or copy/write small files much faster than Gen3 no more than 6% overall. So for gaming, loading your os and regular day to day use Gen 3 is all you really need. You would not be able to detect any difference between the two generations under that usage. So save your money.

Did you bother to read the article? The pricing will continue to fall in to 2021 with pricing falling up to 35%. So WAKE UP! I guess you and the Rockefellers don't care but it's a lot of savings to me!

That was my original point without wanting to sound negative but in this thread we found out the number 4 trumps any savings for the average user. Gen 3/3.1 better drives from just a year or two ago are now budget crap. Just because the motherboard can take Gen4 doesn't mean you are better off spending more on one if you can use that money on a better graphics card or more memory, etc...

It's not just 10%!!
You can expect a 10% drop this quarter itself. which will probably drop further ~10% in Q4
I am expecting a 19% drop by black friday. Which is massive.
Coupled with the release of Nvidia 3000 series, that will be a golden time for building a new masterpiece rig.
If you are reading this, hold your money for another 3 months! You will get a substantial upgrade on the same budget.

Quantify "plummet" please

And no, $10 - 20 off doesn't mean plummet in any language!!

Wake me up when "real plummet" happens, like 40% and higher.

I would say I'm surprised. With so many people stuck at home this is one item I would think would be flying off the shelves, but their loss is our gain and I think they could drop a lot more than 10% .... more like 25% .... then I'm going to break into my piggy bank and get more, more, more
Why would you think that people Stuck@Home, in a temporary suspension of employment, with their salaries decreased by 30% or more and the compensation payment from the State not coming for months or never coming, would rush to buy computer components or any other gadgets?

Well, here we are, it's November and there has been no change that I've seen so far. On Amazon, a Samsung 860 PRO 256GB SATA 2.5" Internal SSD (MZ-76P256BW) [Canada Version] is 20 cents more expensive than it was months ago.
