Reformat unsuccessful

I have a Sony VAIO computer. I would like to say also that i know nothing of computers. This is my first time in doing anything related to computers.

I've been really unsuccessful with this computer.
the first error message that i got said "A disk read error occurred, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

So what i decided to do was...to reformat my computer.

I inserted the Recovery CD that came with the computer. It was in the process of creating a new partition when my power shut down. I tried to restart but the message that i got was "Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter"

Then i was told to try to insert Windows XP OS...i tried that but was unsuccessful...

What can i do to reformat my computer? How can i fix this problem?

if you are shutting down during a reformat, it's probably a hardware issue... try opening the side panel and letting it breath first just as a small test to see if it's overheating... if not, definitely get a hardware diagnostic done on it...

sounds to me like a hard drive issue... you may end up having to replace your hard drive.
