Are you on the way back from the casino or the lottery office and in the market for a new television? If so, perhaps you’ll want to swing by Best Buy in your new pickup truck and scoop up Samsung’s latest high-end QLED set.

The Samsung Q9 is a massive 88-inch (measured diagonally) set packing a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) resolution, HDR and being a Q Series model, quantum dot technology. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi come standard, as does Samsung’s Smart Hub which is powered by a quad-core processor.

Samsung also guarantees the set won’t be affected by burn-in, something that’s still somewhat common even outside of plasma sets. It’s something I’ve experienced on my Samsung UN40KU6300F (the 4K set I use as a desktop monitor) and also on Dell’s UltraSharp UP3216Q 4K monitor so I know it’s a very real concern.

Like other recent Samsung TVs, the Q9 utilizes a single optical cable that connects to an external box to facilitate the connection of other devices. This means that you can plug all of your accessories into this external control box and connect it to the television with a single cable, effectively eliminating cable clutter for a much cleaner installation (I’ve seen the box in use at a friend’s house and am totally sold on the concept).

The only real barrier here for most is the cost as you’ll need to cough up a whopping $19,999.99 for the opportunity to take the Q9 home. That’s well above the range that most are willing / able to spend on a television but if you’ve got the extra scratch and are looking to take your home entertainment system to the next level, this looks to be a solid option.

Touch enabled and it would be great for education... or news media outlets to demonstrate how much money they have.

Is there really a market for such "sell some body parts to get one" gizmos ?

I mean, a car takes you places, helps you see stuff that makes memories... But a device like this ? Shows are just as entertaining on something 40 inches smaller, for sure. Obsolescence hits hard and fast these days. Three years later it's just money down the drain.

Personal opinion, you don't have to agree with me :)

Can't wait for Thanksgiving, I'll be able to get one o' these for 40% off (and FREE extended warranty AND a 4k movie of my choice from that Giant list of titles)!
yep, time to sell the wife's car..

on a side note, can anyone 'splain-me-Lucy' why it is so difficult to track something like a 255-white Logo, Constantly appearing on the screen, and DIM it so that it Can't cause a burn-in effect?

This makes sense for use in a large conference room where you don't want to, or can't, use a projection setup. It would make a great presentation display.

This TV is for proper home theaters and commercial spaces where a projector is either sub-optimal or undesired. Being made obsolete isn't a concern. Recall that 1080p has been "obsolete" for quite some time, yet exists as the standard display resolution anyways.

Yes!

The same people that buy these tv's have $25,000 watches. They are not worried money going down the drain they can afford it. The reason it seems so ridiculous is your not in the same position so your value on the dollar is different.

Yea, and in all honesty an 88" TV @ 4K is a joke, it should be 8K.

Why for all the 8k video out there in the market now?

I think not!

Yes, it is pricey, but I don't think it's overpriced. Not that I would want to buy one, but it's definitely a good price for the super rich.

One thing is, the heat production. I guess air-conditioning is a must while running it in warmer climates.

There's a network in Japan that is doing 8k apparently!

Is there anything really worth watching on the boob tube these days that justify such a large expendature?
