Screen resolution reset?

My screen resolution persistantly sets itself back to 800x600 nearly everytime i reboot my pc. This has been happening ever since i built this pc, ive checked google and nothing seems to solve my problem. Not even a fresh install of windows.

Any one have any ideas as of the cause of this?

My graphics card drivers are fully up to date. im using vista 64.

what kind of monitor are you using?

a widescreen videoseven lcd 19 inch. Native resolution is 1440 x 900 16.10.

i had this same problem when i was using windows 7. I had a 19' widescreen monitor. You said your graphics card drivers were up to date, but what about your monitor drivers. Thats what caused the problem for me. Check if they are up to date.

Im really not sure what you mean by monitor drivers? Are you saying theres a firmware update for my actual monitor??? Sorry im a bit slow today

Yeah. Go to display in control panel and go to settings > advanced > monitor > properties > driver then click update driver. Then reboot.

Sorry i was navigating in xp. It should be similar in vista though.

I found it, clicked update, downloaded a generic pnp monitor driver, installed it and after 2 resets the problem appears to have gone! Thanks for solving a really annoying problem!
