Should I test a macbook logic board with a different display?

I've noticed that the EDP (embedded display port) connector that connects display to logic board in macbooks is usually (or always?) the same between different macbooks, so Any experiences with this?it looks like I can connect a 17inch display on a 13inch macbook just for testing purposes. I wonder if this can damage any of the parts if the displays have different pinouts/voltages.
