Sony blames the pandemic for decline in PlayStation Plus subscribers and users

PSN sucks for the free monthly games. My son all he plays is Fortnite, Rocket League and Warzone. All Free to Play. So why am I going to keep another subscription along with everything else we already have.

I think Sony's statement is honest. Their big strength has been in exclusives, as many comments here confirm. But where are they? They've been delayed due to the Pandemic, and that causes problems in relation to the perceived value of PS+, because there's simply a very limited library for Sony to choose free games from, particularly PS5 titles, and that's been very apparent over the past few months. The value is there if you've built up a big library of new titles over the years, but Gamepass does offer that up front, along with the promise of day one exclusives from the likes of Bethesda. That's an undeniable boon to new subscribers.
I'm lucky enough to be able to afford to invest in both fantastic platforms through my PS5 and PC, but comparing the two, I think Microsoft's subscription offering is more forward looking, and they got a stroke of luck when the Pandemic pretty much arrived at the same time they launched it.
Everyone's been waiting for Sony to mount a proper response, perhaps merging PS+ and Now for example, and I think these reports might give them the kick in the arse they need.
So I think this is good news for PlayStation gamers.

Xbox is relevant only in US. Nobody cares about Xbox and Gamepass in Europe. PC people get Gamepass? Why? What to play? Sea of Thieves?
Why are Xbox guys hyping so much Gamepass? You've never played a game on Xbox? It is full of old games. You've played nothing in the last 10-12 years?
But it has Gears 5!! It is 9 usd on Cdkeys/G2a.
Halo 5 - 6 usd
Forza 4 - 18 usd.

If you've got gamepass for 1 usd it is ok. but 15 usd for this? :))))

Of course on PSN numbers are lower now. People went back to work. It is normal.

And to defend Xbox now. Stop saying that games are on pc. If someone is a console player, he doesn't care if the game is on pc.
I think the GamePass is good during promotion, or for a limited time. While you get a library of game to play with, the subscription is not cheap. Whether it makes sense to get it, it depends on whether there are any game titles that will interest you. The games are generally not new, but there are still some decent games.

Ironically I find GamePass very useful for playing older games on my Xbox. Despite their age, some of the older titles still cost a lot. And when I mean older, I really mean some games from Xbox 360.

Until numbers go below normal, it is not a decline. Sony sounds as if they were banking on the epidemic lasting forever!

Sony wouldn't be worried if subscriber numbers simply went back to pre-lockdown levels...

Gamepass sucked all 3 times I tried it. Not a single game on there that I had not already tried. Maybe I'm weird but I don't see the good value. Maybe if you did not play any games for the past 5-10 years, it would be worth buying.

Oh yes I'm sure you've already played and are bored of all 394 games, old and new, in Game Pass. Added monthly. But you're bored of them in advance. What a joke.

It's old games, and no I have not played all, since most of them are filler games with low review scores or garbage like on EA Play with old FIFA games like FIFA18,19, 20 who wants to play that garbage :joy: No-one. But it makes the library look bigger. EA Play pretty much ONLY have trash games, all the decent games was moved to EA Play Pro.

Game Pass is cheap for a reason. EA Play was included for free, for a reason. Very few good games and most true gamers have played those games anyway way back when they were considered new.

Let me guess, HBO/Netflix/whatever is cheap (same price as game pass) because it's full of garbage no one wants to watch too right? You only buy Blurays right?

The real reason it's cheap is because it's easy to build a loyal subscriber base if you start out low. Also like corporate gyms, it's cheap enough that it's something a lot of people can just forget they're paying.

Or, put another way, the total cost of games we played for the first time just since April is just short of $275. In a little under 4 months.
Yeah idk what the other guy is talking about lol. As long as you play more than 2 games a month (assuming each game is like 5 bucks on some shitty key site like he mentioned), it's worth it.

Agree with everyone here regarding Xbox game pass ultimate. Its value is unmatched, PS+ no where even near a glimpse of how far GPU is ahead.
