Sound problem. Me or motherboard?

Hi all this is my first post in this forum. My problem is the only way my sound will work on my new motherboard is to put it on 6 channel and plug into the centre/subwoofer jack (orange one) I really have no idea how to fix it. Has anyone any ideas?

So what are your computer's specs? Operating System and sound system?

Vista 32 ultimate, amd dual 3800+, 2 gig ram, asus a8n sli motherboard sound, although I do have hdmi sound from my raedon 4850 but cant afford to use. So it is just plugged into the sound jack on the motherboard

Yeah it has hdmi sound but I havnt got the right hardware, for it

Click and look here. Altho it's by Compaq 90% of the info is generic and can help with your problem. Are you familiar with front/rear jacks? If no, you should download the user manual for your mobo from asus web site

Thanks for the link. I am pretty sure it is this Motherboard that is faulty though I have e-mailed the supplier and am waiting reply.
