Sound suddenly stopped working - Win 7 / Chrome

Hello. Several weeks ago I started getting a bunch of popups and new tabs trying to get me to update/install new software such as codec pack, video player, Windows drivers, and FLV Player. After Googling around I decided I should remove "media player" (or something like that) from startup. I think I did this with MSConfig. Anyway - then my sound quit working across the computer and browsers (Chrome & IE). I know nothing about drivers, sound cards, etc. Any thoughts?

P.S. Broni (from here on Techspot) helped me get rid of all the popup malware.

Check in your control panel. Under devices. See if their is a yellow exclamation mark under sound devices. If so you may need to reinstall your sound drivers.
