Just Cause 3 is already one of the most highly-anticipated video games of the year. Yet for some reason, Square Enix has decided that exploring the expansive open-world of its upcoming title isn’t enough. You need to explore a real-life island… like the one they’re giving away.

Wait, what?

Those who pick up a “Day One Edition” of Just Cause 3 for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One have the opportunity to win their very own real-life island.

With the game in hand, interested parties will need to visit the island contest page on December 1 and register for or sign into their Square Enix Members Account. After linking your PlayStation Network / Xbox Live account, you’ll need to enter the code inside your copy of the game to complete registration.

From there, you’ve got 90 days to earn as many in-game Chaos Points as possible. The individual at the top of the leaderboard when the contest comes to a close will win their very own island.

Square Enix points out that the contest is open to residents of the US (excluding Puerto Rico), Canada (excluding Quebec), Mexico and Chile only. Winners may also opt for a cash-equivalent prize of $50,000 instead of the island (those in Mexico are only eligible for the cash prize).

The fine print notes that the location of the island will be determined by the sponsor and that the winner will be responsible for all taxes and fees associated with purchasing and obtaining the island. What’s more, there’s no guarantee that the island will be inhabitable, developed or reachable by any means other than a boat.

Permalink to story.

This is some ridiculous marketing. I cant find a signal reason to choose the island over the money. even if you get an island that you can actually stand on there will be no point to go there because there will be nothing there.

Annnnnnnd as always Quebec gets ****ed, Montreal is home to countless developers, including Squareenix, yet it doesn't qualify. Why? You may be curious enough to ask, lotoquebec is why, they handle everything contest or giveaway related and naturally need their own cut, bunch of god damn money grabbing pricks if you ask me, but that's most of the BS in this province.

Whatever, a $50k island is NOT going to be inhabitable and is going to be in the middle of nowhere. Someone with no life will play the game straight for those 90 days making it impossible for anyone who does have a life, and when he/she wins, will likely take the money instead of some useless island in the middle of nowhere, why do you think they aren't revealing the location...

And there you have it. Pay the tax on the 50k prize or go through the headache of the paperwork and taxes involved with an island.

Shiny happy people holding hands...oops wrong tab!

Of course most people are going to take the money but just the fact that they're offering the island is enough to make one pay attention. Mission accomplished, as they say.

Whats the definition of island? how big it has to be? Have seen some tiny islands.

Getting desperate to get pre-orders for the game apparently. just cause 2 was such disappointment and the fact they kept the main character that has no character makes me want it less. It needs a gimmick other than the rope if they don't make it a actual rope this time that doesn't disappear as soon as you fire new one.

What you mean is JC2 was a big disappointment to you, JC2 was a massive release with a huge fan base who bought the game over its superiority over JC1 just as JC3 but bigger than JC2. With a meta score close to 90 it was hardly a failure with it being accepted that anything over 85 is a class A title.

JC2 was great, can't wait for JC3. Anyone know if it's a DX12 game yet?
