Start Menu Programs gone

Hello there,

So last night, I noticed that there was a folder on my start menu called "Programs." Upon clicking on the folder to see if there was anything in there, my computer froze up for a few seconds and caused the rest of my start menu folders to delete their contents. What I mean is that all the program shortcuts in my start menu were now gone. My initial thought was that I had downloaded a virus somehow.

After restarting to see if that would fix anything, all the folders in my start menu have disappeared completely. I've run Malwarebytes and SAS multiple times as well as scans with Avast and eventually Avira to see if they would pick anything up, but nothing showed up, so I ran HijackThis to see if that could pick anything up, but I don't know how to make any sense of it.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. Any help would be really really appreciated. I just want to make sure that I'm clean.

Thanks!

Oh and I went through the 8-steps.
