I live in London and pay toilets are very much a thing here, although they've just removed the payment from the Tube stations.

If you get caught short almost all pubs will let you go there and there's certainly no shortage of those. The issue is you'll have to stay for a pint, which means you'll need the loo again, which means you'll have to find a second pub, then stay for another pint, and so on. It's a vicious cycle, you see.

So THAT's the secret behind the UK's drinking habits!

When chip cards came out, they said it was for security. Ok, but there is no PIN attached to any of my cards, so I don't get it. How is it more secure? If someone steals my card, they can use it as easily as I can because there is no PIN. Or am I missing something?

They meant "credit card company security". Without a PIN you will spend your money easier. Which usually means more. That means they will also earn more from their fees. Which guarantees their job security. So, there you go..... it's about security.

We've had chip credit cards across Australia for years, with tap and go the most used. 2024 - um what the hell. I'm assuming this relates purely to the USA. There's an expression often used here in oz - pull your finger out.
