Stop Windows from reverting audio from 7.1 to stereo?

I have a DAC connected via USB which outputs 7.1 audio to my headphones. To do this in Windows I have to set the format to 16 bit/44100hz and configure it to 7.1 Surround. This works great, however Windows is constantly reverting the format to 24 bit/48000hz and Stereo. Is there a way I can prevent this from happening?

Windows 10
DAC: GSX 1000

Okay so following trial and error, I've discovered what causes the audio formating to revert. It's upon loading a Youtube video in Firefox.

Alright I may have fixed it.

In Firefox about:config I set "services.common.uptake.sampleRate" to "44100". If I find the sample rate being changed again, I'll post back.

I also discovered a bug in Windows Sound settings. Selecting Configure on your device to check whether it's in Stereo or 7.1, if you cancel out of that window rather than click through, your sample rate will be reset to default. Which in my case thereby causes my device to reset to Stereo.
