Stuck in XP setup

After starting a repair in windows xp media center, I am asked to install disk 2 and click ok. It tells me its missing a file asm. I click out and it restarts the computer and begins the process over again. I can't get out of setup. I have tried safe mode and last known good configurationas well as others. It won't let me into start mode.

Whose version of XP Media Center is it? And for what computer was it released?
Is this the official Windows XP version, or Dell's Media Center or HP or Sony?

In most cases it is detecing a hardware problem during the install... but there are other problems in the Dell and HP versions.
