im having problems with a few things but wot has started this off is that I cant get task manager to work at all!! either by ctrl, alt and del ( the optins come up but when I select task manager it goes to desktop but no taskmanager) and the right click on the taskbar but still nothing. ive tried running it through the run utility but it says
'windows cannot find C:\windows\system32\taskmgr.exe. make sure you typed the name correctly, then try again'

it is there! then whilst looking on the net and trying afew things I noticed that I cannot use the cmd.exe file in the system 32 folder, ive also noticed that with regards to permissions/owners of files I noticed that trustedinstaller had complete control and admin didnt!! ive changed it but still no joy!! also whilst writing this ive realized that I cannot execute most .exe files in the system32 folder!!

im using vista 32 home premium, I have run norton, ad-aware 08, xoftspy, reg mechanic, spybot. and im still none the wiser! I have attached my hjt log! hope someone can help cuz its doing my head in!!!!!!!!

its a new machine and came with vista!! ive done all updates and still doesnt work!! it did work b4

I haven't checked your ZIP attachment (especially seeming you may have a Virus)
But I'd suggest you uninstall Norton (as it's horrible, putting it bluntly)

Then install Avira

yeah i totally agree ive never liked it but it came with the machine but i will get rid of it!! is avira better than AVG cuz ive always got on fine with AVG!!
ill try ur suggestion and let u know!!

many thanx for responding so quick, better than other forums!!!

i have done the 8 stepsand found a few viruses!!! norton really is crap, the scarey thing is that some of the files that were infected ive had for a few years!!!!!!! O.K i do use emule, and i certainly will b more careful with wot i download, still i cant use taskmanager or cmd.exe!!! there is probably more that i cannot use but havent tried!!!
i still get the same error ' windows cannot find C:\Windows\System32taskmgr.exe make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again'

in the zip file i have 2 avscan logs this is because of my kids touching my comp, bloody kids!!!!

also that comodo firewall keeps popping up saying that im still in 'installation mode' do you want to go back to the way it was? no matter wot i do, yes or no, it still comes up!!! a bit annoying!!!

I hope someone can help

No need to purchase any software
I only supply users with links to free (and just as good - if not better) software

I notced that you have TorrentReactor installed
Using such programs opens you up to more possible attacks, including Malwares
Having such things reported in your logs as removed Virused keygens substantiates this

You are advised to uninstall TorrentReactor and any other filesharing program, before support (well me) will look further into your logs

Due to the found Malwares I believe you should do the following at least:

Download Combofix
Lots of info on its use h e r e
Direct download h e r e

Save it to a location that you can easily find later (in Safe Mode) ie directly to C drive

Restart your computer to Safe Mode (by repeatedly pressing F8 on your keyboard before Windows starts)
Log into your Administrator account
Locate the previously downloaded Combofix
Double click on it to run, answering any prompts along the way
Note: during Combofix scan (lasting up to 10mins) your Desktop and clock may reset (all normal)

Once Combofix has finished, save the log file to be attached to a new reply
Restart back to Normal mode, and attach the Combofix log

I advise that you also remove as many Windows startups that are not required to start with your Windows system. Here's an excellent tool for that: Startup Control Panel

i did struggle to go into safe mode cuz this is a packard bell machine and when it starts it has the f8 key as a boot device option so i turned off the pc whilst windows was on and was able to go into safe mode, i chose the safe mode without networking was that correct???

ive attached the combofix log!!

thanx for ur help kimsland!!!

Ok

Thanks for the update
Please go to Control Panel and then 'Scheduled Tasks' and remove Norton (and any other Scheduled Tasks that you do not require

Clear & Reset System Restore's Cache

Go to Start >> Run - type or copy/paste control sysdm.cpl,,4 and then press Enter
* Tick on the checkbox - Turn off System Restore on all drives
* Click Apply
Turn it back 'On' by unticking the same checkbox & click Apply, and then OK

Restart, then please let me know of any further issues :)

ureka!! taskmanager is kinda working, and i havent done wot u suggested in the last reply, which i will in a mo! all i did was rebooted after i done the combofix, posted my reply then sat down to watch simpsons!!! (love it) but taskmanager is saying it has 49 processes but i can only c 14 and the cpu uasge is 00 on everything, and every now and then dwn.exe goes to 01, i will now try ur suggestions to c if that makes a difference!! i will let u know!!

many many thanx for ur help!!!

Once you are done with removing any not required startups and then restarted
Please do another scan with HJT and attach the log
(Try your best to remove the startups first though, as they just make a HJT log too big to go through quickly, and it'll help your computer system run better anyway ;) )

Oh yeah :) Many startups removed :grinthumb

But there are some more bad ones present :(

Please start HJT scan again, and place a tick next to the following, be sure to close all Internet browsers before selecting Fix all
