Only commercial vessels or certain vessels over 65ft, are required to have tracking. There is no tracking on my 34 ft boat.

And I guess you also think that the County you live in listing your homes value and the taxes paid on it are 'illegal' as well? Sorry BOTH what the guy does AND what your county posts about you and my county posts about me are legal according to several Federal Court Cases!! Same thing with people making over $50k annually paid out of taxpayer money is sent to the local newspapers every year thru a FOIA request.

Someone is posting your car's whereabouts, the phone company, and in many cases, the car itself. As for those that actually care where he is, they remind me of the "dead heads", who dutifully followed the Grateful Dead around, come rain or shine.

Life in the public eye does carry with it inherent risk, just ask John Lennon about that. But he, Zuck, or whomever, wanted desperately wanted to be there, despite the risk of possibly dying because of it. I suggest they deal with it. Perhaps via private security assistance.

FWIW: With a DX sensor (APS-C I think), an 800 mm tele functions as a 1200 mm would on a full frame camera on a Nikon body, and 1280 mm on a Canon body. That's well past the possibility of hand holding it. You should be able to come close to taking a full frame shot of the moon with that lens. So for many purposes, consider it a telescope.

I've read, (no personal experience), that astronomers use relatively low power eye pieces, (15x ?), when sweeping for comets.

Sports photographers generally use between 300 mm to 400 mm F 2.8 lenses. They're very fast, and staggeringly expensive.
