Highly anticipated: Tesla's latest release of their full self-driving (FSD) 10.2 beta software has been both highly anticipated and highly scrutinized by owners, investors, and regulatory organizations such as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Initially scheduled for an October 8th release to qualifying Tesla owners, a delay to the FSD rollout was announced early Saturday. The tweet, issued by Musk himself, pushed the release back to "either Sunday or Monday." No other updates to the release schedule have been provided at this time.

Update: The Beta 10.2 update rollout has started as of Monday morning, rolling out to cars with 100/100 safety score over 100 miles.

Thousands of Tesla owners woke up to disappointment on Saturday following an early morning tweet from CEO Elon Musk. He cited last minute concerns that would delay Tesla's FSD beta 10.2 deployment until at least Sunday or Monday. The latest release of the autopilot capability was initially scheduled for release to a limited audience beginning October 8th.

More than 1,000 Tesla owners with safety scores of 100 were scheduled to receive the software update; an additional 100-200 owners with safety scores of 99 were also scheduled to receive the release once rollouts to the initial group were complete. The delay comes on the heels of the 10.1 beta release, which Musk previously stated was being delayed to align with the newer 10.2 release.

Safety officials from the NTSB have been skeptical about the planned timing of FSD's release, previously stating that Musk and Tesla should first address identified safety deficiencies related to the FSD technology. NTSB's statements are in addition to the already ongoing scrutiny and investigations issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) following several Tesla driver assistance related crashes.

FSD has been undergoing development, test, and refinement for several years. Tesla owners opting into the program have agreed to both having their driving habits monitored as well as signing Tesla-issued non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). These NDAs are designed to prevent any program participants from posting videos and information pointing out FSD flaws.

Despite the name, FSD is not intended to fully replace driver responsibility and should not be viewed as a hands-off autopilot setting. Previous articles have cited Musk reminding users that FSD is not a replacement for being aware, urging them to exercise proper safety and telling them to "...be paranoid."

Considering the potential for accidents to yield catastrophic results, it's hard to fault Musk for continuously monitoring the release status and slipping deadlines for technical and safety reasons rather than pushing unfinished functionality solely to meet customer and investor driven deadlines.

It is almost hard to imagine a long line of morons eager to entrust their lives to Tesla's bit fiddlers.

What boggles my mind, is just how invasive Tesla's computer truly is. I've said this before, but IMO it bears repeating. Pretty soon, people will have to get rid of their, "god iis my copilot" bumper stickers, and replace them with, "Ellon Musk is not only my copilot, but he's practically right here in the car with me".

It's probably getting close to the point now, where you can't shank your girlfriend in the back seat, without Tesla making a porno out of it.

Elon, either release a truly autopilot system and stop f***ing around. No one wants to have been slammed into by a Tesla driver who “wasn’t being aware” and no driver wants to have to still half pay attention to the road with a “self-driving” feature!

Bumper to Bumper traffic here in NYC lately would sell you on Autonomous driving almost instantly BEFORE you even experience the car.

The only surprise here is that Musk is actually holding back in order to do more testing .... usually it's his buyers that do the testing and crashing and killing or dieing ......

I wonder if those concerns include the instances of Teslas ramming into emergency vehicles? 🤣

Providing, of course, that such a vehicle is even capable of not crashing into all that bumper to bumper traffic.

That would sell me on more public transport infrastructure. Self driving cars aren’t the solution to gridlock traffic in cities, trains, light rail snd buses are.

Poor tesla drivers will get bullied on the road, see a tesla in a queue just jump right in.
This works on a lot of new Saloon/Sedan type cars that have adaptive cruise control. I enjoy annoying the flashy BMW drivers. :)

Yeah, the personal injury law firms are probably licking their chops at this one.

Lot of hateful comments here.
Will we soon be killing each other.
It that happens, haters won't be able to watch TV or play videogames anymore...
It seems that World of Warcraft was prophetic.

Don't tell me, let me guess, you're bucking for moderator... 🤣

That said, isn't it the gamer boyz that have taken to "swatting" one another, in the hopes that the police will kill their opponents for them?

😂 I don't agree totally with Elon Musk endeavour, but I respect people who are creative and do things. In their time, Henry Ford, Bombardier, Tesla where ridiculed, hated and laughed at by the mainstream, but against the mediocrity tide, they benefited greatly the quality of life of humanity .
What humanity did with this quality of life is another question... 😉

Very misleading in my opinion, for Tesla to call it "Full Self Driving". Also, seems creepy that Tesla is monitoring people's driving habits, much less deciding what is a "safe driver" or not, based on some score they came up with?

Progressive insurance tried to implement the whole. "Big Brother
as your back seat driver", concept, with spyware hardware, which plugged into your car's diagnostic port. My take on that was, "Flo",, should stick it up her fat a** instead....

Autopilots that are only "half auto" caused a lot of airliner accidents and deaths. The autopilot should either behave like a responsible crew member, or not be present at all. If you need to constantly babysit the autopilot, then just pull it out and throw it into a recycle bin.

Either it works, or it doesn't work. Half-baked solutions are recipe for disaster, as you can't rely on them. And then what's their purpose? To deceive the driver into feeling safe?
