In brief: Retro gaming specialist My Arcade on Monday announced its latest portable gaming console. The aptly named Super Retro Champ is designed to play all of your favorites from the 16-bit era including Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis cartridges as well as Super Famicom and Mega Drive variants.

The handheld features a 7-inch display with integrated battery that offers up to five hours of gaming on a single charge. You can play it as a true handheld or utilize the two included wireless gamepads to play in tabletop mode. With the HDMI output, you can even connect the handheld to your television for on-the-couch gaming.

My Arcade also includes a built-in cartridge cleaning kit. What the system doesn’t afford, however, is any onboard memory or memory card slot so you’ll have to rely on those old on-cart batteries for save games. Fingers crossed that they still work, right?

The Super Retro Champ Console will carry an MSRP of $109.99 when it launches later this year. Those attending CES can stop by My Arcade’s booth in the South Hall (#20906) for a hands-on demo.

Great, just hope the screen is big enough. I have a sega nomad and some of the games are unplayable due to the screen size. can't wait to dust of the old carts. wonder if it does pal and ntsc.

I'm starting to get real sick of retro gaming. I mean I don't want to play these games anymore I want programs and devs to start pushing new things instead of simply repackaging old stuff.

Perhaps if current devs would give us games worth buying, people wouldn't look to the past for gaming goodness. You can be sick of retro gaming all you want, such doesn't change the fact that the 8 & 16 bit era is widely regarded as the golden age of gaming, unlike much of today's so-called "AAA" title rubbish.

I definitely want one of these Super Retro Champ handhelds. Only thing is that I hope it gets a GBA cartridge adapter for Game Boy games, similar to the retro-bit adapter called the Super Retro Advance. The Super Retro Advance adapter allows you to play all Game Boy games on the RDP Portatble SNES handheld console by retro-bit.

So, if the Super Retro Champ gets the GBA adapter as well. I'll be able to place all 3 of my favorite video game consoles in 1 unit! SNES, GENESIS and GBA are my favorites though I also like a few Game Boy Color titles.

Hopefully for the Super Retro Champ, we will get a Super Retro Advance- like adapter. This is basically a SNES cartridge with a GB/GBA slot at the top. It allows you to play GB, GBC and GBA games through a SNES cartridge. This accessory would complete the Super Retro Champ!

I was waiting for the retro-bit Sega Nomad to be released last year. It never happened. Don't know if retro-bit is still working on the Nomad or not. Anyways, I'd much rather purchase the Super Retro Champ and play GENESIS carts with it.

Like the Hyperkin cart? I like that idea.
