Top 5 AMD X570 Motherboards

Would an average user notice whether they had PCIe4 over 3? In fact would a gamer notice any difference between a shiny new X570 board and a slightly older X470 board when running their brand new 3600X/3700X and a decent GPU?

in some games yes.
I did notice a huge performance increase in my 1% lows.
no more stutter from my intel 2700k 5 ghz
clock speed isnt everything like intel would like to believe .
I been on 5 ghz last 8 years and I upgraded to 4.4 ghz.

I'm surprised an Intel processor that's 7 generations behind the current version even runs modern games! You really need to look at IPC improvements rather than just frequency to understand why newer processors (Intel and AMD) are so much better than older processors that run at similar frequencies.

I was actually more interested whether it's worth investing in an X570 motherboard over an X470 motherboard if you own one of the latest AMD Ryzen processors ie the 3700X.

I'm waiting for a CPU/MoBo combo that supports both an x16 M.2 slot AND an x16 PCIe 4.0 slot for my video card simultaneously. Neither should be forced to run at x8 just so the other can run at full speed.

With all current CPU/MoBo combos, you must sacrifice one or the other to achieve maximum speed of either device.

There is no hardware currently available (GPU's) that fully ultilitize PCI-E 4.0 X16. Let alone X8 or PCI-E 3 / X16.

Trust me (and the many reviews out there), it's not worth it. I went with the Ryzen 3 ready (out of the box) MSI B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard and it has se same performance than any X570 board, even with the 3900x. Oh, and it only costs 110 bucks.

[X570] it's not worth it.
I suspected that was the case and I guess your one sentence could have replaced the whole review. It's just odd that the actual review didn't point this out but instead suggests we spend $300-$700 to get a motherboard that offers no real advantages over the older boards.

It's a scheme to get us to spend more money, in my humble opinion. PCI-E 4.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) are not enough features to make paying the premium they are asking, at least for the common user.

This comes at a very good time.

I had skipped Ryzen 2 and waited for Ryzen 3. I have the first-gen ASRock Taichi X370 board, which has been very solid with plenty of expandability.

I'm building (rebuilding, I guess) a video workstation, and the Ryzen 9 3900 looks very tempting.

Wow, the price of those boards really shot up. They used to be $80. I guess this is the impact of it being so widely recommended. You can find other good B450 motherboards for cheaper that will do the job as well. The Ryzen 3000 lineup sips power so the motherboard requirements aren't high.

It's supply and demand, I agree. But the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max never cost 80 bucks, 90/100 was the lowest price I've seen, when they were launched.

Can't find the mini itx section? Is it just me ?

Oh. I thought it was just me. I guess this is one is it. "Best MicroATX, ASRock X570M Pro4
$180.00".

I'm glad I wasn't shopping Newegg or Amazon for an hour. They're getting it all wrong with their huge stock of ITX X570 motherboards. :)

so lets say pcie 5.0 comes around and you want to use pcie 4.0 you get full speed at max from pcie 4.0 on pcie 5 6 motherboards into the future. x570 are just 1 gen of using pcie 4.0 tecs.

It should, or try hard to be close. Remember spec's change 'slightly', they're modified and extended, so taking the concepts of backward compatability and interoperability LITERALLY - as used in the computer component space could be a risk. I have x570's and it's ulikely they'll ever host newer versions of hardware.

tl;dr "might work plug it in and benchmark it" /s

Thanks Squid. Yeah, I understand the reason. It's the risk you run with displaying dynamic price links next to your buyers' guide.
Fact of life unfortunately, with limited supply and delayed shipments. Note we did review prices and picks before bumping the buying guide.

If you check out the price tracker, you will see you can watch the product you want and get it closer to the intended price point...

Nothing planned for the moment, but I will recommend you take a look at this (from Steve's YouTube channel):

Alas... that was made when they were first released months ago... would love to know about Asus' "Alpha" version - and pros and cons depending on the chip (3990, 3970, 3960)...

I'd love to get a mid-tier board, like the Asrock X570 Taichi, but without the WiFi and Sound. Those two items are so often not needed by most enthusiasts, I don't understand why we are forced to spend money on hardware we will ultimately disable and not use. We prefer to use wired network, because of speed and reliability. And on-board sound still doesn't match the richness and depth of an awesome Creative Labs card.
