A hot potato: The close relationship between Donald Trump and Elon Musk has led to claims that the world's richest man and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will be getting his own West Wing office. However, when asked if the reports were accurate, Trump denied it.

On Monday, The New York Times reported that Musk is likely to get a West Wing Office for DOGE. This contradicted earlier reports that the Tesla CEO was expected to have an office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is next to the West Wing.

During a press conference on Monday night where he signed an executive order creating and implementing DOGE, Trump was asked directly if Musk would get a West Wing office.

"No," Trump replied. "He's getting an office for about 20 people that we're hiring to make sure these [executive orders] get implemented."

Musk has reportedly been asking about his level of access at the White House. Sources say he has been given an all-access blue badge pass, which enables the holder to enter various parts of the building without having to go through the same level of security screening each time they enter the complex.

DOGE has spent most of the last two months at SpaceX's Washington headquarters. Although it is not a federal executive department, DOGE aims to cut wasteful spending and unnecessary regulations, such as reducing the number of federal employees, abolishing some federal agencies, and improving governmental productivity by modernizing federal technology. Musk previously said he wanted $2 trillion cut from the US budget, though he's since backtracked and admitted that figure is unlikely to be achieved.

Musk's first move to cut government spending was shutting down the Chief Diversity Officers Executive Council.

The executive order that established DOGE states that its purpose is to "modernize federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity." DOGE will replace the US Digital Service (USDS). Every federal department has to create a four-person team to liaise with the new office.

Despite being a new entity, DOGE is already facing legal battles. It was hit with at least three lawsuits within minutes of Trump being sworn in. Public interest law firm National Security Counselors alleges that DOGE violates transparency requirements set by a law from 1972. Plaintiffs claim that DOGE should be considered a "federal advisory committee," but it lacks "fairly balanced" representation, does not keep records of its meetings, and is not open to public scrutiny.

Vivek Ramaswamy was going to lead DOGE alongside Musk but he was removed, reportedly at the behest of Musk and members of Trump's inner circle.

This is such a click bait article. Why would you even write about this on a tech website? Trump just passed a 500 billion Stargate AI Infrastructure bill that could provide 100k of jobs in AI and Cyber, but this is what you decide to write about? and of course the triggered, salty, Trump haters are salivating to get their "thoughts" in on the post.

Like he promised jobs in the past? Talk is cheap. Jobs in AI and Cyber already exist, what you need is people to occupy them. What are you going to do? Invest in immigration? because you clearly don't want cheaper university/college education in the US since you support Trump.

It's so weird to see a trump fan talking about the economy when every economist on the planet is telling you that you and trump are wrong :)

Well, you can't expect everyone to love a racist, misogynist, convicted felon enough to be happy with him turning the USA into a fascist dictatorship.
Not everyone is comfortable seeing big business take over the running of a government that was originally created to serve the people.

Musk and Trump are a disgrace. If you Americans think they care about you. You couldn't be more wrong.
Where do you think all that money from all those programs there cutting are going?
That money is going right into there pockets.

Musk and Trump are nothing but one big Grift and you all are gonna pay for it.

As I expected you missed the entire point and clearly have not read or even research what this partnership between Oracle, Softbank, and OpenAI would do. First off, the point of my post was not about the economy. You are wrong on that intreprtation. I am simply questioning how "if Elon Musk is getting a office in the west wing" is even relevant in a technology blogging site.

Second, you are not wrong about jobs already existing in AI and Cyber, but again you are missing the point. This would create more technology job opportunities in rural areas and rapidly accelerate research in the medical field for curing diseases like cancer and heart disease.

Lastly, where have you been these last 4 years? There is no way you are this delusional. The Biden/Harris administration literally destroyed the economy. Where were these "economist" that you speak off when inflation is 20%? They are no more credible than Dr. Fauci and we ALL know the truth about him.

Just stop it..

You are absolutely delusional LOL. If you voted for Biden FYI, you voted for an actual racist. The level of hypocrisy is unreal. At the end of the day Donald Trump won and there is nothing you can do about it except cry and whine for 4 years LOL

How is news about one of the richest people in the Tech industry not worth of being mentioned on a tech website?

"The Biden/Harris administration literally destroyed the economy." - Trump's biggest issue is that he got a much too strong economy and dollar and he can't do what he wants. All economists on the planet refute your claims.

"Where were these "economist" that you speak off when inflation is 20%?" - they are where they should be, telling you that the US outperformed the whole world during a crisis. Biden milked Europe dry with liquid gas exports and weapon sales.

I don't need your opinion or trump's opinion, we have objective facts.

"This would create more technology job opportunities in rural areas and rapidly accelerate research in the medical field for curing diseases like cancer and heart disease." - ah yes, those many rural areas filled with massive research facilities that hire from the locals. so many job opportunities for those people /s

This is false by all accepted economic measures that we have relied on for decades.

This is from the US Treasury.

"U.S. real GDP was 11.5 percent higher in the third quarter of 2024 than at the end of 2019"

https://home.treasury.gov/news/featured-stories/the-us-post-pandemic-recovery-in-context

I hope you can continue to engage in meaningful discussion by pointing to a valid source supporting your catastrophized position in your rebuttal.

You want to play? Let's play!

The "source" you provided from the US Treasury literally states "page not located" which invalidates your claim. The credible source that provides data for real GDP is provided by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). Let's not forget the U.S. experienced TWO consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This technically triggered a recession which the Biden administration nor the Federal Reserve admitted:

- Q1 2020: U.S. real GDP shrank by -5.0% (annualized), as the economy contracted due to the onset of the pandemic, widespread lockdowns, and business closures.
- Q2 2020: U.S. real GDP saw an unprecedented decline of -31.4% (annualized), the largest quarterly contraction in U.S. history, as the full impact of the pandemic and related restrictions hit.

Let's repeat that again, the US experience a - 31.4% decline in Q2 2020. So that " +11.5%" does not mean nothing considering. Biden shutting down the economy as long as he did contributed to that but that's another conversation. Let's stay on track: Other notable facts that affected AVERAGE Americans and one of the main reasons Trump won the election:

- CPI in 2022: Reached 9.1% in June 2022, but ended 2022 at 6.5% year-over-year.
- There is a cumulative increase cost of of living estimated to be approximately 23% from 2019 to 2024.
- Which ties into Wage growth: Nominal wage growth around 4-5% per year, but real wage growth has been lower due to inflation.
- Housing price increase: Around 30% from 2019 to 2022.
- Rent increase: Approximately 30% in many regions from 2019 to 2022.
- Food cost increase: Around 17% from 2019 to 2023, not 34%.
- The fed fund rate remains at 5.25% to 5.50%, the highest level in over 20 years, reflecting the Fed's ongoing stance against inflation.

If you know about economics, you'd know that inflation stays that way unless we reach a deflationary period. You wanted me to provide valid sources to support my claims, have at it!

Eleven times out of five, I’ll take Musk having an office in the West Wing over Fauci, Soros, or any amount of DIE/CRT zealots operating in the shadows.
I love how the conspiracy theorist nutjobs on the Right are constantly hung up on insignificant nonsense like this. What does Fauci have to do with anything? The old dude was trying to save lives using whatever information he had available at the time, but the Right has turned him into some kind of dystopian boogeyman simply because they didn't want to wear masks. Oh the horror of having to wear a piece of cloth over your mouth, it's worse than being chained up and whipped!!

And Soros? Give me a break. He seems to be your MVP boogeyman of all time. Never mind the fact that the Koch brothers are richer and donated far more money to ridiculous Right-wing causes than Soros ever did. As long as YOUR side does it you're perfectly fine with it. And the fact that the Koch brothers are the ones you need to thank for all the dark money that's legally allowed to flow around and prop up whatever causes the secret donors want in your country. I'm sure you people would love to have a law that allows only YOUR side to make unlimited secret donations to your causes, but unfortunately for you the law doesn't work that way.

I don't know what DIE/CRT is, must be some new buzz word/dog whistle to replace "woke" I guess.

Oh yeah? You mean like the way YOUR side CRIED and WHINED for 4 years about losing the election to Biden and pretended the election was stolen? LOL!

Don't put me in that category. I did not even vote for Trump in 2019. From my observation, I only see the left literally crying because their candidate did not win. I have yet to see anyone on the right literally crying because their candidate did not win. It's deranged behavior for grown adults to be crying on camera because they did not get their way.

Also it's not crying from the right that Trump lost in 2019. It's rather suspicious that Biden (who is way less popular than Obama) manage to get 81 million votes which is more than Obama ever had. Just saying

You are right. You don't need my opinions, but the FACT is Donald J. Trump won the 2024 election:

The FACT is he received 312 Electoral College votes as oppose to Kamala's 226 votes.
The FACT is he flipped 6 states to include Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
The FACT is he won 77,284,118 votes or 49.8% of votes casted for a president
The FACT is he holds the record for the most cumulative popular votes won by any presidential candidate in US History, surpassing Barack Obama
The FACT is Kamala Harris had to concede that she lost election on live TV

Now those are FACTS

I just want you to know that I didn't read any of your response. Not even the first line.

I hope the response (which I did not read) took you no less than 30 mins and that you will think of me when you realize that you will never get that time back... and there's nothing you can do about it 😉
