Hey guys,
I have a custom PC that I think need some serious upgrades. I built it 2 years ago but some of the specs are just not good enough for me. I will mainly use Photoshop, ableton live, sony soundforge, sony vegas and a few more apps. Maybe the odd game like flight sim x but nothing serious like crysis. What I need to know is what I can upgrade and what sort of money I will be looking at (£). I have allready posted several threads about amd builds etc, but they are turning out to be about £3-400. I want to spend about £150- 200.

**Update to fit Rage_3K_Moiz's guide. Am in Brighton, UK. Am willing to buy online.Want to know what to buy and reuse. Allready have windows XP 32bit. Got mouse keyboard etc.**

My specs are as follows:

Mobo- Asus P5V-VM DH with remote/wifi

CPU- Intel Core 2 Duo **Update- 6400 @2.13Ghz 2mb L2 cache**

RAM- 1GB Kingston Value RAM :( DDR2 DIMM

HDD- 80GB Western Digital Barracuda

PSU- Antec 380w Green PSU

Case- Cooler Master Centurion 5 -completely knackered though from some attempted mods :L

Optical Drive(s)-

Unbranded Crap CD RW+ drive

Creative DVD Rom drive

CPU cooler- sorry don't remeber manufacturer v. big tho **also everest ultimate unlocked says nothing

Floppy- Generic 1 1/4' floppy drive

Cooling- Several cooling fans, mainly akasa

Lighting- 3 Cold Cathodes, 1 lazer LED

New mobos up for amd or intel (whatevers cheaper) and asrock mobo would be nice, corsair memory sounds good and anything else you guys can suggest.

**Not saying upgrade entire PC!**

thanks,

Dan

Ok thanks mate, Youv'e been amazingly helpfull!! I have put together four upgrades which I think would really help,

Kingston 2gb Ddr2 800mhz Hyperx Memory Non-ecc Cl5 (5-5-5-15) Dimm £20.08

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128499

500GB Generic Disk £34.99

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Generic-Har...9K/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1248544522&sr=8-13

Coolermaster Elite 330 Black Mid Tower Case - No PSU £28.52

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127584#

Optical Drive- LG DVD combi drive £16.00

http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase25.4&prodID=B143391

If you don't mind could you see if that RAM would work with that mobo and other stick?

Thanks so much,
dan

Yes it would, but as rage suggested it would be beneficial to use 3gbs of ram, since that is the max amount you can use with xp 32bit.

Just FYI mate, you can get your mobo and RAM from www.novatech.co.uk instead of eBuyer, since they offer you the option of buying them OEM, which means you get them in plain white boxes instead of the usual fancy ones, which makes them cheaper. Be sure to check with Novatech before you buy though.

If you do save enough, you can get a Seagate, WD or Samsung HDD instead of the one you've posted.
