Upgrading my computer finally but...

So I finally got a new computer on the way but its not exactly what I wanted.

Current machine is Core i7 2600k 16gb ram 500gb ssd Radeon rx 580 8gb.

New machine is an Alienware R10 Desktop AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 8GB Memory1TB HD AMD RX 6800 XT 16GB

It has the video card card I want and the processor, but I really wanted to build it al myself.
I have 32gb ram on the way along with WD black 2tb nvme ssd.

I figured I could get this now or wait another 1-2 years to finally get things at the prices I wanted.
I figure I might as well pull the trigger...

Covid really threw a wrench into computer pricing...

I think I over paid by $300 compared to 6 months ago and this graphics card crunch started. Still better than $1k over priced!

Are you paying that price as advertised? Dell is selling that specific model directly for $1609.99 (link).

Crap, I looked all over Dell's website yesterday and only ever got machines with Nvidia video cards.

Actually it is $1759 with the upgraded chassis but point taken. They must have just started selling them this morning!

 Ah, that's not great. Well at least you've got a fantastic PC coming your way.

One more update:
My new computer a Alienware r10 with water cooling, 5600x, 8gb ram, 6800xt will be here next week!
I have 32gb (2x16gb) ram ready to upgrade it along with a nice 2tb wd black ssd. Price worked out cheaper to get the machine as is from dell and then upgrade it from parts purchased from Newegg as opposed to buying it preconfigured. (Saved about $150)

I also have a gigabyte 34" curved ultra wide screen on the way.

There have been some complaints about the cooling fan for the water rad so I have a pair of corsair ml120 pro's with a pwm splitter as an upgrade for that as well. Reports are that swapping the nidec industrial fan for the corsairs and reapplying the paste cuts temps by about 10c and makes the machine run much quieter.

The 2600K was starting to act weird... Probably on its last legs.

I really wanted to build my own but then the whole situation with top of the line video cards etc.

This go round I purchased a Dell because they had the configuration I wanted and everything was in stock.

Next time I'll go back to building my own.

either way I get 100+ fps at 3440x1440 and all the options maxed out.

The 5600X and the 6800 XT are the best value to performance AMD components that serve as the basis for a gaming machine, in my opinion.

I know, I know, this is more of a fact based thing than opinion, so I shouldn't even have an opinion because the price to performance metrics are what they are.

I just think it's still generally true, considering how expensive the 6700 XTs are anyways. so the 6800 XT looks like a better buy, considering both are priced at insane levels. I say that as a 6700 XT owner who paid probably double the Canadian MSRP, and could not afford to jump up tp the 6800 XT, which I still lament, uselessly.

The CPU thing is a little easier to stomach. A lot easier. Even though the price hike over the 3600X was a tad too steep, it is still within reason. and the 5600X is a fantastic CPU, which took Intel a further 2 generation past the 10th gen, which was what the competing CPU generation from Intel was at the time of release of Zen 3, for Intel to make a CPU that was better than the 5600X in that price class.

Of course, now AMD look like greedy slobs for not having anything to compete with CPUs like the i3-10105, the i5-12600k, and the i3-12100.

6800 NON-XT over 6800XT for sure.

6800 NON-XT has better performance per dollar + better perf per watt.

6700XT is much slower.

5600X is still decent but hopefully board will fit a 5800X3D in the long run, because when true next gen games come out (PS5/XSX/PC only) based on Unreal Engine 5 and newer updated engines, then 6C/12T might experience what 4C/8T chips went thru and 5800X3D simply beats all other Zen 3 chips with ease in gaming, performs like Alder Lake which also beat Zen 3 chips without 3D Cache like 5800X3D.

All games will require more RAM, VRAM and Cores in next gen titles. GAMES so far, has been made to be supported on a decade old console market (PS4 and XB1). Demands will rise soon, because of hugely improved AI, draw distance and detail in general.

Personally, I would not go below 8C/16T these days. 6C/12T is bare minimum, however still works "fine" for most games (unless you pair it with a true high-end GPU)

Just like 16GB is bare minimum too. Might as well go 32GB. Some games has 32GB as recommended amount, like Flight Sim 2020 and there's way less stutter and hickups using more RAM in general. System just flows to perfection with zero cashing and pagefile can sometimes be disabled too (not recommended tho, it just won't be used much regardless)

Prices are finally starting to come back down, just in time for the next generation of Radeons and Ryzens to come out. I'm thinking I'll goive this machine to my kid and then build a brand new machine from scratch.
