US strikes unprecedented deal: Nvidia and AMD to give 15% of China AI chip sales to Washington

Mr. Turnip and the MAGA horde:
WE SHOULDN'T EXPORT CHIPS TO CHINA, IT'S AGAINST NATIONAL SECURITY!!

Mr. Turnip raises the bribe of exported chips by 15%....

When China gladly pays the 15% scam ransom and gets any "national security endangering" chips, then suddenly, Mr. Turnip and his MAGA lemmings be like: "Yay, that's a great deal!!!"

The jokes about their treasonous stupidity just write themselves, daily!!

Is there ANY limit to this international embarrassing stupidity??? You know, Mafia bosses are very smart guys, but our Mafia lord is the dumbest sloth on the planet!!

I can't believe that companies keep putting up with this Extortion. The more of them that fall to this crap, the more it emboldens this creep and administration.
Why? They have monopolies and simply give him a cut that gets passed on to the consumer. That's how his buddy putin runs russia and that's how he wants to run the US.
Furthermore, National Security has become a prize to sell and something to just throw out the window for political ends. The minions of this administration don't seem to know Jack Schitt about national security from the way they keep throwing classified information out the window for anyone to read.
In order for one to have national security, one must have people who care about the nation as a whole. Name one person in the trump administration who cares about the USA as a whole?
Stupid people trashing everything everything in sight and the US as well.
Yeah, that's maga. See January 6th rioters or as trump calls them, people who participated in "a day of love" with "nothing done wrong"

Nvidia basically bought its way back into China with a 15 percent cover charge. The US government just went from referee to business partner in the AI chip game, which feels like mixing the rulebook with a profit-sharing agreement.

Removing Intel CEO, and asking for a cut from AMD and Nvidia GPUs...

The White House is now taking a cut like a drug cartel or the mafia as a Pizzo...

What a joke of a country the USA has become...
Don't forget the so called "tariffs" which are just import sales taxes the government extracts from American companies and consumers while the Fox Propaganda Network brainwashes the masses into thinking foreign countries pay for it. You can call an orange turd by any other name, it still stinks like an orange turd.

I don't get it, how does paying the US government 15% of sales to sell to Chyna advance any US interests?

If Chyna shouldn't have the tech... then AMD/NV shouldn't get the export license, yeah?

Our usual MAGA posters are pretty quiet, the marching orders from Fox News are still downloading I guess...
The only US interests advanced will be (and not doubt already have been) certain members of congress who will have already been buying/selling frantically due to insider information. I'm a Brit, but even I know about the obvious crooks in the US congress.

He's not keeping the plane, mark.
You didn't hear about what happens to the plane when Trump leaves office? Did you even bother to look it up? Trump said it would be a temporary replacement for Air Force One and given to his presidential library after he leaves office but denied he would fly in the plane then. Regardless if that's true or not it's still a extremely large gift from another country and a massive conflict of interest.

What slays me is all the uproar when Trump does something that the other side has been doing for years like it's the end of the world and humanity. Why do you think there haven't been any natural gas electrical plants built? How did all of these expensive wind farms pop up that cannot be economically justified? Why do you think every car maker in the world decided to build EV's en mass and loose money on every single one (Tesla excepted, but he's hated now)?

The bottom line is that every single administration in history used incentives, taxes, rules, regulations, etc. to craft the policy they want. Let's not forget, both of these GPUs are heavily gimped, so we're still withholding tech from China. Add to that that if Huawei was truly in a position to run neck and neck with the US, do you think China would be buying these by the boat load?

No matter what the experts say, here's the bottom line: Jensen doesn't care a wit about how much AI power China has, he wants to line his own pockets. AMD and Nvidia had a huge stock of AI chips that nobody but China would want due to their being gimped (if you're going to buy GPUs for AI, you might as well buy the fully working chips). If Nvida and AMD are desperate to offload these GPUs, why not get something out of the deal for the country, since the only reason you're doing that is to improve Nvida and AMD's balance sheets.

P.S. If China had made GPUs that were 60% of what they could buy from the U.S., we'd never sell another gimped CPU to China again.
This has nothing to do with "the other side". Give us some evidence to support how you feel about it.

"both of these GPUs are heavily gimped" What are you talking about? This 15% is giving AMD and NVIDIA the export licenses to send China full power MI308 and H20 AI accelerators and not just gimped GPUs. None of this information is hard to find. And not giving the best tech to China isn't a one side or the other issue. This is a national security issue going away just because the government is getting money in return.

Expensive wind farms? The US government helps the petroleum industry, which is massively profitable with around $700 Billion in subsidies and tax breaks among other financial benefits while wind and solar only got $31 Billion in the same year. Wind and solar produced an estimated $70 Billion worth of power in 2024. You're just repeating the talking points you believe without doing any of your own research.

Do some research on how much energy costs in areas where natural gas powerplants would be built and how much one of those plants would cost, while you are at it look at how many power generation facilities were built last year.

I'm not going to spend any more time on looking up each of your ridiculous points when you should be doing research before posting your feelings as facts.

I just recently completed my first play through of Cyberpunk 2077.

Weird to watch the USA actually going that way, albeit, more slowly, looking forward to the first corporation war though! What do we reckon? Nvidia tries a hostile takeover of Apple? Microsoft now nervous its next?

And how is the money to be used?
Or is it: who's pockets is it lining?

Plus Weyland-Yutani versus Prodigy Corp...

This is crazy... why ban exports in the first place then, if not to ask for a cut afterwards?
I'm French, so I may not know everything here (who does...?), but this is quite strange I think...
