hey all, I was hoping someone could help me with a usb drive problem. i plugged in my usb drive and my pc does not recognise it. A message comes up saying that "the usb could not be recognised" and nothing else happens. I have used the usb before on many occassions.

how could this have happened and how can i fix it? hope someone can help

Hi

usual cause is the drive is broken, or your running windows 98 and you need to install drivers for it, XP and the like dont need drivers but you dont say what type of device it is...

more info is needed first

This could be a broken drive as previously pointed out. There's also a chance it's a USB cable and/or USB power issue. Does the drive have it's own AC adapter or rely on the USB port for its power?

it doesn't have its own power source
its just a regular 4 gig toshiba usb

so i'm guessing from what you've both told me is that it's most likely broken.
that's ok though, thanks for the help though
