VIA has introduced what it claims is the world's most power efficient DirectX 10.1 chipset. The VIA VN1000 is designed for next-generation small form factor and all-in-one Windows 7 computers that focus entertainment, multimedia and touchscreen capabilities.

When paired with the VIA VT8261 southbridge, the duo only consumes a combined 12W of power, and the VN1000 is compatible with a host of VIA processors, including the Nano, C7, C7-M, and Eden chips. The chipset supports up to 1066MHz DDR3 RAM, one x8 and four x1 PCIe 2.0 lanes, four SATA ports, an IDE controller, 12 USB 2.0 ports, PS/2, SPI, GPIO, LPC, and can power an SD/MMS/MMC card reader.

The VN1000 features the VIA Chrome 520 IGP, which brings support for DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4, OpenGL 3.0 graphics and OpenCL 1.0 for next-generation GPGPU applications. VIA's new chipset also employs the ChromotionHD 2.0 video processor, which is capable of hardware acceleration for the H.264, WM9, and VC1 codecs. Naturally, it also supports various display output technologies like HDMI and VGA.
