Maybe it was the fact that his video about upgrading from Windows 1.0 to Windows 7 became really popular or maybe he became a bit nostalgic when he saw that Internet Explorer was still around when Microsoft announced the release of IE9 earlier this week. In either case, YouTube user Andrew Tait is back and this time he's installed all the major versions of IE: from 1.0 to 9.0.

"In this video, I install every version of IE to compare them and to test various websites on them," the creator writes. "Since IE9 came out, I thought it would be a good idea to install every version and compare them. I also ran the Acid Tests on each version."

While it's not as in-depth as his first one, the 9-minute video goes into the history of the browser, tests a few websites that still work on the older versions, and shows what has changed over the years. Even if you hate IE, it's worth taking a look at.

I personally can't remember anything prior to IE 5.5, though I'm sure I used it extensively on Windows 95. This makes me wonder: what versions of IE do you remember using?

I remember using IE 5.5 and the 6 but i didn't know the difference really . Still i once again say that Microsoft finally released a decent browser worth using !

My first computer used to be a 286 with MS Dos 5.x ive got the 6.22 MS Dos version and windows 3.0 & 3.1 on a garage sale ... omg those days !!

some people are trashing IE for no reason, just because they use other browsers and they think only their **** is the best, exactly like other things, only what i use is the best...bla,bla. i personally use FF and i also used IE and i never got any kind of problems, no viruses, is fast, starts fast, it properly loads almost all sites. and now with ie9 they they really made a very, very good browser.

The very first browser I used was Internet Explorer 3 (on a 56 kbit/s modem), but at that time I had absolutely no clue at all regarding the possibilities of the World Wide Web. I only used it for looking at pretty pictures of Darth Vader o.O

I caught the "Horse Porn" bit, that made me lol :)

Man IE9 is good! 95/100 on the Acid! test! damn microsoft has been hard at work :)

I've literally got the tee shirt for downloading IE3 on its release date. Good lord I am getting old.

It should be noted that until about 02-03 that high-speed internet wasn't really a standard, so there was no need for flashy features as they'd take a lifetime to load on 56k

PC users running Windows 7 today have it really good with IE 9 and really fast broadband connections. Back in 98 or 99, I remember running Windows 95 with a 56K modem and IE then was like really slow and buggy. I eventually ended up using Netscape Navigator which was part of the software kit from my ISP. Yeah, bad old days of the Net :)
