Video games, Pornhub, and creating Only Fans content: how the UK coped during lockdown

In brief: In another example of how much video games benefit the world, a new report reveals that more than half of the UK played them to cope with last year’s lockdown. It seems watching and making pornography was also a popular way of passing the time while locked indoors.

UK communications regulator Ofcom’s latest Online Nation report shows that 62% of UK adults and 92% of 16 to 24-year-olds spent time playing video games during 2020. More than half said the activity helped them get through the country’s various Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions.

Phones were the most popular way of playing games, having been used by 39% of all UK adults, with the mobile version of Among Us highlighted as being downloaded over 11 million times in the UK in four months. TV-connected console gaming was the next most common platform, followed by computers. Interestingly, half of all 16 to 64-year-old gamers in the country said they only play free-to-play titles.

Three-quarters of 5 to 15-year-olds played online games in 2020, with Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite the most popular titles. Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto Online, and Rainbow Six Siege were also played often by this age group, despite their 18+ rating.

The report suggests many people turned to pornography to help them through the pandemic—lucky that the “no touching other people” rule didn’t extend to oneself. Half the UK’s adult population watched online porn last year, with 26 million people viewing the material in September alone.

Pornhub was the most popular adult site with 15 million visitors—50% of men, and 16% of women, with internet access. The average visitor spent 10 minutes and 20 seconds on the site.

OnlyFans is also gaining more viewers and content, with some people turning to the site as a way of generating income in the face of rising unemployment and financial uncertainty. OF, which operates an 80:20 creator/platform split in revenue share, saw a 75% increase in new content creators in May 2020.

It's quite possible that a silicon love doll might actually help reduce the amount of money and time spent on pornsites while simultaneously driving marriage/childbirth rates into the ground and mental illness through the roof.

Why anyone watches skanks get chubs up their hershey highway is beyond me

The urge to reproduce is as strong as the urge to eat.
But when you have liberal feminism and obesity artificially reducing men's variety in women, you start to understand why #1 the child birth rates are declining, #2 marriage rates are declining, #3 mental illness/violent crime is increasing.

It's quite possible that online porn saved a lot of lives.

Incels are ARMED in 2020

That is some seriously broken arguments there.
Child birth drops in any economy that is growing strong. It's a natural side effect of women actually being allowed to work, but still getting punished hard financially for having a kid.

There's NOTHING broken or incorrect about my argument.

Liberal feminism has ruined women.

Fortunately, we actually saw what happened, during quarantine, when women were stripped of those cushy office jobs and forced to return to the home to actually "be parents" and "home makers" while their husbands were out doing the real work.

Face it: the expansion of the welfare state is destroying family structure and community.

Birth rates on the decline.

Marriage on the decline.

The health of the state is Live Births.

Well, the solution is to stop trying to treat women as second rate citizen. If you want more child births, stop punishing them for doing that. So, yeah, everything is wrong with what you're writing.

OK... what nonsense is this? What world do you live in that the pandemic stripped women of their cushy office jobs? Men and women were BOTH stripped of jobs - no nation I know of enforced a "stay at home order for women only"....

And if you want birth rates to decline, all you need to do is offer women education and jobs... once they realize there's an alternative to staying at home and popping out babies, they tend to take it....

With scientific progress increasing in leaps and bounds - and all of this progress being highly necessary to keep on top of all the global issues we are facing.... do we really want to limit our global intellect to half of our species?!?!?

I'd rather pay a scalper for a new GPU than some ho on the internet so she can buy a house from it.

The urge for men to get their nut is strong..they don't care about reproduction. Now I like looking at naked chicks as much as the next guy but Why anyone watches skanks get chubs up their hershey highway is beyond me

September was between lock-downs in the UK. I would be more interested in the March to July figures and the November and post Christmas lock-downs. BTW thanks for the list ;)

OK those statistics aside I'm interested in how long non-adults spend on Pr0nhump. ;P

And so I did. Not a scalper, but a serious store, still feeling is exactly the same. But gosh that 3090 blew me away and even if steep, it's an amazing investment for many years into the future. Next GPU I'll buy will have 24G VRAM only on one side. :D

The lack of gaming-related discussions in the comments is hilarious. I'll be the odd one out and say the lockdowns didn't affect me at all since I was 1. working from home during the hard lockdowns last year and 2. We were forced to go back to the office the moment the government allowed us to. I wasn't able to game any more or less than usual.
