VMware for Mac?

My wife has a Macbook pro with OSX 10.7.5. She can no longer do any updates to the OS. Also, browsers won't update so more and more websites won't work or load. I don't have a solution for that but wonder if anyone has a solution to that or if there is/are any VMware that anyone has experience with or would recommend. I would attempt to run either Windows7 Home Prem. or maybe W10 along with the Mac OS.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Did you update the system and does the browser work better?

btw; you can also install Firefox, Chrome browsers on OSX
