WD AOC-8 external hard drive wont register on my kd links A100 android tv device

I was given the external hard drive not sure if I needed anything else with it but I have the power hooked up and the USB connected to the Android box but it is not registering

Unable to determine which OS you have and what equipment you are working on.

I suspect that the HDD if it actually works is formatted for a PC using windows. It may need to be formatted to an Android readable configuration.

Do you have manual for "Android box"? Can you download one?
Do you have manual for "WD AOC-8"? Can you download one?

I have the Manual for the Android but I can download the one for the hard-drive..what am I looking for or do I need to do? Thanks

What file format does Android expect for external drives connected by USB?
What format is the External HD?

If different, can you locate system which will read in format on the External HD?
Can you copy whatever you need?

Then, back to Android device - how do you format External HD in format Android device can use?

End result - backup copy of desired files and an External HD which can be used by Android device.
