Weekend Open Forum: Did you get an iPhone 6 on launch day?

So did anyone buy one? or are they too ashamed to admit it after reading everyone say 'no'?

That's too ironic to be representative of the stereotypical Apple fan. With all the "no" responses, the opportunity to be a maverick is ripe. A true Apple fan wouldn't pass up his one opportunity in life to be an individual.

25 comments, 1 person bought one, and a couple of maybes or I'm getting one later posts.

That's a pretty striking indication of what people who know a thing or two about technology think about Apple products. Think about it, the kind of people that come to Techspot aren't your average tech people. Most of us either work in the tech field or are tech enthusiasts on some level or another. And pretty much all of us don't want the iphone or anything to do with Apple in general.

The more you know about technology the less you want anything to do with Apple.

I've always felt Android was for the folks who knew better. Most of the people I know with iPhone are young girls and their moms.I would buy a Windows phone before an iPhone if there were no Android.

But yeah, I love Android because of the freedom to do what I want with it.

I will let you all guess if I went out and bought the iPhone 6 on launch. By the way you do not get a prize if guess correctly (unless you bet on the out come at your local bookies).

No way! Apple are probably the most successful company in history to hypnotise the masses into overpaying for underrated products, but the spell is wearing off very, very quickly and they know it. Why else would they be so litigious against Samsung? It's not entirely for genuine patent infringements.

It's far worse to have had something and then lost it or to have never had it at all. Apple are beginning to feel the pain, and there is NOTHING they can do aside from (what they can't dare embrace the risk of) an entire GUI redesign. Imagine the paranoia at headquarters.

Is anyone still laughing at the fact that the iphone 6 has 2012 specs? Lol the same as the Galaxy S3.

Yes got the 6. Love it. iOS 8 is amazing! Now coming from a 5 the 6 does seem almost too big. I can't even imagine the size of the +. The Pictures and Videos with slow mo are amazing. Anyone who thinks you need 10+ megapixels to have amazing pics needs to read up. Wish it had better battery life but other than that its a very high quality built phone. I know I can resell the phone at a higher value than the Android phones which I also like. And no, I did not stand in line, I just pre-ordered on the website. I see a lot of hate in these comments but I bet the ones that do never even used a iPhone. I suggest if you never tried one before that your next upgrade you do and see what you have been missing. Its not all about the phone or the company it's about the OS. iOS is a great operating system compared to Android. I've never had my OS lockup or lag. I've had apps have a problem and simply closing and reopening them solved. All these comments about Apple using out dated technology ,I think you need to read up more because you sound like you don't know much. Having quad processors, super amounts of ram, 12+ mega pixels don't do anything for you if the OS is optimized correctly. To each their own...Some people love android and some love iOS. I personally like iOS, but stop hating what you don't have or never used. I know its fun because I used to do it before I got my first iPhone 4s. Then I saw what "quality" was about. In my life I like "quality" products, Apple provides that, and the "Resell" value of iPhone's shows others see that too.

Well I tried to go Android with the LG G3 and lasted a couple of days. It's a great phone and loved the screen and the features. However, I've been with iOS for a long time and just wanted to go back. Nothing against Android, but I've got everything invested in the Apple ecosystem. The screen size also was too big for me and the phone got a little uncomfortable to hold for an extended period of time. I'll probably go with the 6 not the 6 Plus. I may try an Android tablet though for home use just to play around with it. Any suggestions, especially to play games?

We bought a couple G3's last week after the battery in one of our Nexus 4's went TU. One of the reasons we bought the G3 is that it has a replaceable battery (we're done buying any phone that does not have a replaceable battery... just another way the manufacturers get the consumer to upgrade often). We've been happy with the G3's thus far... excellent performance and battery life after taking just a few minutes to tune down the crapware. Didn't even think about the new iPhones. Too much money for (mostly) old technology. And that closed system (with its "free" songs downloaded to folks phones without their permission) simply won't fly for me. Hope folks who bought the new iPhone like them, just don't try to convince me they are somehow better than some of the other options out there. From my perspective the iPhones aren't any better, just more expensive. To each their own.

I'm kind of in the same boat, a heavy iStuff user (iPhone 5, latest Macbook Pro 15). All I want is a better battery life, nothing else, really. And no matter which camp I look at, there isn't much to see. I tried and bought Note 2 couple years ago, only to realize 3 weeks later that I made a mistake and bought iPhone 5. And I don't like the latest iPhone, not even a tiny bit. I've been looking at LG G3 and Note 4, but not convinced. Your posts reminds me of the caution to just stay away from all that, to avoid wasting money and be disappointed.

I initially thought the same thing about the latest iPhone because I didn't think there was enough to warrant an upgrade from the 5 too. That's why I tried the G3. But after messing around with it, I decided that there wasn't enough within the Android ecosystem to warrant a big change. While I did like the specs in the G3 and liked the flexibility of the OS, again, I didn't feel it was enough of a reason to switch everything over. As I stated in the previous post, I wouldn't mind playing within the Android OS with a tablet for casual use (games), but everyday phone use, I'm just comfortable and invested with iOS for now. Best of both worlds I guess.

I might get one since my Droid 4 has some serious battery issues now and Motorola doesn't seem close to releasing Droid 5 anytime soon... or never...

Might finally get an iPhone.

Hur, yeah. I am just going to replace my damn battery.

I am not surprised to see a general trend of bashing 'hardware' specially from android fans (I guess it is because android 'needs' good/high-end hardware to achieve 'reasonable' performance), but IMO software is more important here, and Apple wins hands down in providing long term software upgrades compared to anyone, although in short term they do seem to charge a little higher price for their phones. It would be interesting to see if someone can do a thorough research and come up with costs involved in offering such extensive free upgrades/support for 3 years (compared to 18 months support of android OEMs), and see where things stand at the end of each product cycle.

Don't think I am posting as a Guest, I am at workplace
Yes apple is overpriced - they are charging for their aesthetic metal finish premium feel ya HTC one m8 is good looking, are u telling me samsung is charging less ?? s5 costs around the same price and comes with a very ugly looking plastic
"under-powered, non-upgradeable phones"
Do u even know y phones need high ram or CPU clock speeds ?? high ram doesn't mean high performance.. IOS is a very light OS it doesn't need a 2gb ram like android.. ram is only used for multitasking and loading application and IOS does a great job at it than android. new iPhone come with 634 bit architecture and IOS supports it..I down see android doing it.
non upgradable ?? apple offers 64gb to 128gb why do u need more space unless u going to do a backup of u laptop in to the phone and store 2tb of high resolution videos
"ridiculously limited operating" and "Apple's attempt at catching up with the high-end smartphone market"
Are you kidding me ?
I have an android and IOS -- Have u even did a jailbreak on IOS using cydia -- ull have the same features of a rooted android running cyanogenmod or any custom rom as we speak
"they utterly failed to release a competitive product"
Common man IOS 6 comes with a new LTE bands that support 20 diff LTE and image stabilizing camera, and apple pay, I know NFC was released very late but apple built an ecosystem around it got top players to use apple pay -- I dont see samsung pulling something ever

I dont understand this ridiculous bad mouthing - its a personal choice
I am a proud owner of android, IOS, mac, windows and Linux and if u ask me I haven't seen any other OS that works so seamlessly than IOS and OS X

My android samsung s4 - running cyanogenmod rom won't even last me a day - it gets stuck and lags wen I do multitasking never ming the bad build quality of the phone. my iPhone 5s - it simply works man when I need it or when I am hosting a conference.

The new handoff and continuity features are just amazing I dont see android pulling it anytime soon
