Weekend Open Forum: How fast can you type?

OMG I typed miserably using a Corsair K70 red silver. It is embarrassing to post the result. I will look for my trusty ordinary logitech KB in the garage and I will beat most of you here for sure.

I prefer dvorak over qwerty, and I would prefer to use typing-speed-test.aoeu.eu which focuses on actual fingerspeed instead of reading skills.

And no offense, but <100 WPM is awful.

Lol less than 100 is awful why?

My job doesn't require me to have a high WPM rate since I'm not doing data input.

I missed triple digits by a little bit. First try I ended with 79 WPM and my second try I got up to 92 WPM. Definitely helps to have a good keyboard that you are used to and familiar with.

I don't need a high WPM rate either, neither did I train for that. I rarely type that fast. I mean, usually the bottleneck is your mind, right? Changing to dvorak was only something I found interesting.

But I always felt like typing on a keyboard is like riding a bicycle. When you first learn to do that, it's a pretty steep learning curve. But once you know how to do it, you don't really need to "train" to ride without hands, nobody has to explain it to you.. riding without hands is just trivial.
So, if you can type with two hands using at least 2 or 3 fingers per hand, it is trivial to do that without looking, and it seemed to me it would also be just as simple to type "fast". So it was just disappointing to see these very low scores, especially on a tech-related website.
I knew the average was low, but I figured that includes those people who only type with one finger per hand, and have to look for the right keys.

58 on my Surface Pro (with attached keyboard), and 94 on my desktop with a Logitech G110. (I rarely type much at all these days, but I'm sure I'd be faster after a little practice.)

I don't know how fast I type, I only use one or two fingers from each hand, but I still your faster and more accurately than most people I know that know how to type "properly".

I'll do the test when I get to my computer.
Of course. It's obvious from your post that accuracy is very important when you type..
The error was due to the phone's "auto-correct" feature.

I did the test and got 48wpm with 100% accuracy. I did some mistakes but corrected them. I guess the test does not count that as errors but decrease WPM rating.

It was a bit hard for me as English is not my primary language, I'm used to US English and the test has a lot of UK English.

I had learned to type as a teenager, yet I was not very good, testing out at an average of about 37wpm (I failed going twice, but had to have the skill to achieve my goals). Yet, by using my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, the Samsung virtual keyboard and S Pen to Swipe with I think a pretty close estimate of present speeds would show me typing at about 80-85wpm. This would also show me at a 90-97 percent word accuracy. I couldn't find a test on the Google Play Store to that this accurately.

Anyway, this is a pretty good showing, making it possible to write papers, reviews, and books fairly rapidly.

I don't often have the opportunity to dictate to my tablet, but when I do, this increases my speed to about 100 wpm.

The only word misspelled here was opportunity.

I'll need to try it out when I'm not on my phone, but the last test I took during a college program put me at 137 -3 word errors. About a year ago. Be interesting to see if so much phone use does anything negative to my computer typing!
But I have the added benefit of having typed since I was a child. I grew up on bbs services and spent my teens on fast paced messaging services from the late 80s early 90s. But many from the early days aol and compuserve among others quickly recognises my handle.
I gotta get to a computer and find out where I'm at. Lol
