Weekend tech reading: Intel to sell CPU upgrades via software

More a case of limiting the options for mainstream chipsets. Baseclock and multiplier overclock options are still available on the enthusiast platforms (X58, X79).
Having said that, any 2500K/2600K can reach 4.4GHz, and approx, around 80% of these will be stable at 4.7-4.8GHz on air, and 20% of these (and rising) are capable of 5.0-5.2+GHz (albeit with more esoteric cooling). If anyone would care to enlighten me on comparable Intel (and AMD for that matter) SKU's that can make the same claim -or reach the same level of performance....

While a 57x multi being available for every SKU might sound like heaven on earth (considering that a year ago every man+ dog was wailing about how SB wasn't going to be overclockable) for the enthusiast, you'd probably need to spare a thought for where the vast majority of CPU's end up - OEM's like Dell, HP, Acer. Anyone care to guess what kind of warranty premium might get affixed to a Sandy Bridge Pentium capable of 5.7GHz ?

Sounds crazy. It reminds me of the first time I saw DLC for a game. I think I sold the game the next day.

That sounds...........stupid
You sold a game because you objected to what amounts to an online expansion pack?
Do you have an ethical dilemma with a game re-using maps? Personally I wish a few games would do just this- but then I like some of the more immersive game enviroments (GTA's Liberty City & Vice City, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s Ukraine for example).

I wasn't very specific about it, was I? I don't want to steer things too far off topic here, but basically, when a game is released and IMMEDIATELY has "new" content the following day, I blow a fuse. They are at a point now where they are removing game content just to sell it separately. If it doesn't fit on the original disc, I suppose I could make an exception, but in general it seems like a shady deal. All in all it depends on the quality of the content, and the purpose of it's release as DLC.

I am beginning to think games should either come on better discs, flash drives, or just be downloaded entirely from the initial release. I will say that DLC is usually cheaper for computer games though. Most of my complaints in the past were from my console gaming days.

I brought it up before because I feel it is comparable to what Intel may be doing. My opinion, nothing more.
