What causes a newly formatted computer run so slow?

I am running Win. 7 Pro 64 bit on a Lenovo desktop. I did a complete recovery to factory settings and is running really slow, the programs and or pages take forever to open and close any suggestions? Will appreciate any help I can get.Raphael Chapa

Typically it is Windows Update - downloading hundreds of updates which Win7 needs to be reasonably safe. Let it run this way for several days. Check for updates over that period - maybe 6-7 reboots from now it will settle down.

(Also why I gave up and moved to Win10)
