What piece of hardware do you regret buying?

It's amazing how much money we've spent on peripherals for storage.

I recently bought a 4 TB Samsung SSD for $1500 .

Three years from now I'm gonna look back and think about how much money I wasted when SSD passes 10 GB for that same price .
I hate to break this to you, especially while you're gettin' your brag on, but I do believe SSD has gone well past 10 Gigabytes already...

Unless you were expecting us to do some kind of "bucks to gigabyte conversion", because we were all wrapped up in the post...

Years ago I bought a Philips Pronto universal remote. It had a large touch lcd screen that could be customised for anything. It used a serial data lead and the software was pretty awful. I never configured it to work right with my kit. It sat on my shelf unused for about 5 years before I sold it on ebay. I never saw one in use, apart from a painted one used as a prop in Stargate SG-1.

was it the 2013 model ? and lte or wifi edition ? the sad thing tho, is that the phones are starting to get the same size as that tablet.
It was the wifi job. Yeah, you're right, some phablets are starting to make that 7" device size look miniscule, it's getting out of hand now. Do you know what a struggle it's becoming to find a good 5" Android smartphone these days?

Both me and my dad changed our two Phenom II X6 1090T for an FX 8150 and FX 6200 at launch, when I saw that 3 cores 6 threats in the 6200 vs 6 real cores in the 1090T I knew something was wrong, I witnessed it by myself in a lot of games and apps. The bulldozer hype did major damage, the 1090T was amazing. Lets hope for Zen.

Nothing PC wise. I wasted my money buying an Asus Nexus 7" tablet a while back, I wanted to see what all the fuss about tablets was and very quickly found out it was superfluous
I have both the original Nexus 7 and the 2013 edition. Original was definitely not as good, battery life and performance were both lacking. I am still using my 2013 version and hoping they release an updated 7 inch. Fits in my pocket nicely, although things have started to go it still lets me play the odd game and browse the web as intended.

Regrets and hardware, I bought a Clevo brand laptop 6+ years ago and it was really noisy once the fans kicked in, back then it was hard to find a high res screen without buying a gaming laptop. Did everything else well so I kept it and waited for a better option to appear.

Now I have the Dell 15 XPS 2013 and its great. Took a little while for the Linux drivers to improve/work but it was worth it, swapped the drives for SSDs and I have had 1.5TB SSD disk on my laptop for the last 3 years. Great for virtualisation. I swap my mSata drive out for new when I re-image the OS, storing everything important on my 1TB SSD. Makes for an easy rollback if something goes wrong and all I need to do is remount the 1TB disk once the new OS is online.

Looking forward to upgrading the laptop to allow for the NVMe drives as my next upgrade. The Dell already boots in under 20 sec, hoping NVMe reduces that to 10 sec? Only thing missing is more cores on a laptop for us mobile power users and better battery life to allow for them :)

I think your right, but it isn't something a home user would generally pay for given their price... here are some examples up to 13TB.

Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth 2013. It looks great but the keys feel slightly cheap and the software is trash (ridiculously unstable). Waaaaaayyyy too expensive for the quality.

Logitech software was more solid the best part of decade ago so I'm looking at Logitech probably for my next keyboard.

PS3 .blue ray quit while watching about the 5th movie.only have 4games for it .still like new.
And the VOX usb tv tuner. I'm resilient .3 of those quit before I did.

The Dell Venue 8 Pro was also somewhat of a mistake. I'm not sure I regret buying it, it was an experience and geeky fun, but in the end I hardly used it. I went back to playing games on Android tablets.

Same except mine died right after warranty expired with very little use.

Last year I bought an Alienware 15, 2015, it was the basic model and with Win 8. It was really good looking and the games ran smoothly with high graphics in the 1080 screen.
The first day I got it, I realized that the Sata cable of the HDD was disconnected and I had to dismount the HDD and reconnect it (Dell did not provide any solution by the way), it happened almost every time that I move the computer so I had to use it as a desktop without moving it from my desk or the HDD would disconnect, I got really disappointing that my HP laptop of a few hundred dollars did not have any issues like that and my Alienware of 1.3k had allot of issues. Besides of that Win 8 is crap.

-Smart TVs (used tax return to get 2x samsung smartTVs for the cost of getting 3-4 normal TVs + roku or fire externals. It's rarely updated, slow boot time to use the smart side of the system)
-PS4 (wishful thinking on my part hoping that consoles would pump out quality and quantity compared to my gaming pc.. it didn't happen)
-3DSxl (it's too small still, wtf nintendo, hopefully the switch will be better)
-XPS13 (2013 release) had overheating problems, heating pipe wasn't level with all parts, Dell never notified of the recall for the board and the gfx chip. Only found out after the fact.
-Shure SRH1540 (wonderful headphones and light) spent waay too much, no microphone for gaming.
-many amd/ati related hardware back when I didn't believe intel/nvidia was worth the money.

you can replace the blueray drive for $20 bucks(when I last did it). I did it to mine a long while ago.

Where can I get one .

where can I get one?as I bought 3 dead one's.got a 160gig hd to replace the 40 gig.but all blueray drives were different.I guess I need one from the original 40 gig model.I have the remote as well .would like to get it working again .just haven't bothered.but it will be a cheap fix if I can find one to match..

Mine didn't die, but the pen worked on and off, and since the pen is pretty much the only thing that makes this tablet worthwhile over others, that was a problem.

Actually I thought it was Amazon, but it's not there when I search it. I remember having to specify which ps3 and model number of the blueray.

there's a dropdown.

Most recently a ~6 mo old Logitech G610 Cherry MX brown keyboard it works well and is otherwise sturdy & very good for the money with the caveat being the frequently used letters on the black key caps wear prematurely at least on mine and then the back lit letters are difficult to read just like a cheap $19.00 back lit membrane KB I had before this despite the fact it has excellent Cherry MX Brown key-switches .

Maybe I should eventually buy some other back lit Cherry switch key caps if this happens again Logitech wants $25.00 for these .
Logitech warranty service thus far has not resolved the matter and they are giving me the run around within the warranty period which just requires as I asked of them them to send me a spare key cap set they list for this KB or just the worn key switch caps I listed .

Now the support person wants 3 more pictures and a handwritten note for further analysis of my claim which according to him may or may not be be rejected and this is after he agreed my keyboard was defective after I sent him a picture of the keyboard he requested and the part and serial numbers ,and also a UPC image and Amazon prime proof of delivery images to my address .

I requested today that they elevate the claim to a supervisor and put them on notice if this wasn't resolved in a week since he agreed the keyboard was defective already I would be discussing this with the office of the Vice president at Logitech Americas at Newark CAL .

The caveat at this point is that I probably wont be buying any more Logitech products because of what I feel is shabby warranty treatment of a longstanding Logitech customer and IMO no customer should be treated like this in 2016 anyway .

I will keep this post updated as I can noting that Amazon brand products ,Staples office chair mfrs. warranty fulfillment ,Mono-price and Toshiba /OZC have excellent warranty service IMO and have cross shipped or just shipped me replacement products quickly without all this drama .
****UPDATE ****
The good news is after elevating the claim to a helpful supervisor Logitech is cross shipping me a replacement product with a pre paid RMA and shipping label for this otherwise real decent G610 mechanical keyboard that has never been cleaned with anything beyond a very slightly moistened clean micro fiber cloth (occasionally ) like you might use on your screen occasionally beyond normal dusting with a microfiber cloth .

I have several Logitech products and plenty over 25 years .This is my first warranty claim
I had to upgrade my G27 optical sensor wheel with a CNC machined aftermarket part to replace the cracked OE part out of warranty but other than that and these key caps the Logitec Products have all been good by me .
In the last 2 years for 3 desktops here I bought the Logitech G27 Wheel, 3 Lazer Mice ,a tochpad and this G610 mechanical KB and some Z506 Surround speakers and I still have a decent ~15 yr old Logitech 5 or 7 button Joystick that still works .

I regret buying a netbook from asus (1015bx) a few years back. It was simply to slow for anything thanks to heving only 1 gb ram and part of that was used by the gpu. So I end up selling it in the end. Would never again buy a pc with less than 4 GB of ram. I bought a 15" asus laptop (f5sl) back in 2008 and I still use it, best buy ever.

I would advise 8GB ram minimum for Windows 10 x64 it often uses 3 GB all by itself but runs fine on 8,12 or-16 GB and for the majority of users 8-12 GB is fine .

ofc. thats presuming anyone needing more than 8 -12 GB of Ram on windows 10 knows all that already ☺

FWIW I have 4 Windows 10 x64 PC's here .

For me, 2 things I don't like to buy that is second hand Hard Disk and Motherboard. Because there is no another option to back it again. So, for this 2 I regret always.

I agree on the HHD and it depends on the circumstance, age and the other variables on a used mainboard for me .

I recently put an NOS exact replacement OEM stock main board from ebay in my 6 yr old upgraded daily driver HP Pavilion PC with a windows 10 clean install via the previous upgrade licence , it had a newer 1TB hdd ,6 core AMD K10 CPU and ram upgrades I already had in there its nearly a new old PC now . With the upgrades I sold it on ebay for a fair price .

The mainboard failed in the old one it all works fine and looks new and I was shopping this exact new core i5 PC anyway .

FWIW it did take a phone call to MS to activate windows 10 again on the new main board in the same PC and hdd.

I bought my old PC new in late 2010 . I fixed it after I bought this new Haswell Core i5 box and added the sound card and SSD upgrades out of it to this new PC for windows 10 and ofc. re configured the SSD for GPT partition tables .

Now I dual boot windows 10 14393 .AU clean install minus the OEM bloatware on the hdd and currently 14971.rs on the ssd for the daily driver OS
