When i select desktop tab on properties window,the window disapears?how to fix..

What is wrong? I have never seen this problem before...
I want to change my desktop background..I go right click, properties, when the window comes up and as I select the desktop tab..Poof...it disapears...what the hell is going on here??

Can a genius plz help me...
