Why does win7 not show my drive with the drive letter

From windows explorer>computer, I see the "Hard Disk Drives (1) drive name as only "System" and no drive letter?

by default I understand is that it should display "Local Disk (C" even if you rename it to system, it should appear as "system (C"

Any ideas why this is so?
