Wifi won't work, but Ethernet cable does

Okay, to begin with I have very little experience in this sort of stuff, so basic words. My wifi connection won't work, and every time I try to troubleshoot it, it says "connect to Ethernet cable". I have never connected my laptop to an Ethernet cable, so I'm wondering if I had deleted something (I usually delete things I don't really need). All of the devices in my house are able to connect the wifi just fine, but for some reason my laptop won't. Oh, and my laptop is an HP envy X360, if that's any help. Thank you
