Win10 recovery & reinstall options or lack of...

I've been using Windows since v3.1 and in those days one could repair the OS without loosing all your software. Now on Insider Build 16237 I find I often want to do a repair but can't. There is now no apparent way to reinstall the essential OS files without loosing all your software.

MS do offer to keep "all your apps and settings" which sounds good except they mean Store apps not "applications" I.e. your own software. This wording is seriously misleading and I've heard great gnashing of teeth from those who read it as meaning apps in the sense of third party software installed from CDs, downloads etc.

I distinctly remember an option in the old days to keep ALL your software and settings, so why this change?

Repair options in Win 10 are now pretty limited then. Basically you will have to reinstall everything which as an Insider is a PITA. Moan over.
