Windows 10 Home Edition's automated updates early troubles prompt for release of block tool

I can only say **** you to Microsoft for forcing updates. Even if you are on Pro version you will eventually have to update, you can only delay them for a short time.

Even with Win7 I have found it necessary to turn off updates. I am on satellite and updates were consuming too much of my total monthly usage. Many times the updates were defective requiring system reset to an earlier time. Auto updates is a deal breaker for me.

"This way, you can revert your computer to a point before Windows Update imposed on you a faulty revision."

At this point the automatic update will install and break your computer again.

At this point " you can revert your computer to a point before Windows Update imposed on you a faulty revision."

Sounds loopy to me.
...Wash, Rinse, Repeat...:)

I don't think this will last. While Microsoft is still very large and profitable, they cant keep going against what consumers want much more without jeopardizing their market share. I've been using the w10 preview build as my daily driver for roughly the last 2 months and I must say I like what I see. However, I will not install software on my computer that doesn't let me choose how I get to use.

On a better note, Microsoft has been good about listening to user feedback about the w10 preview and changing it accordingly. I have no doubt in my mind that Microsoft will respond appropriately to user backlash. I'm fairly certain they learned their lesson from the start menu fiasco.

For the record, the Win 10 Start Menu is another farce.
It's simply a new presentation, a shrunken down Modern Screen,
embedded into the position of the legacy Start Menu button.

The real value of the Start Menu, for those that demand it, has been lost
on this version. Luckily there are simple and reliable add-ons to get back
the compact, yet effective Start Menu of the past ... without ruining the Win 10 experience.

I've been using windows 10 for over 2 months at this point and I can say that is absolute BS. You can remove all the tiles from the startmenu if you want and it functions just the way it did in 7. I, however, like them and find them useful

I have simple readily available way of getting the start menu back. It's called a "factory sealed OEM copy of Windows 7 Pro". Won't let it out of my site.

I have one little rig with a 8400 GT video card. The drivers are some sort of 162.00 version. I should quick run out and buy a copy of Windows 10 and get that taken care of.....(n) (or not)

If you settle by sticking with Win 7,
then you don't know computing.

It's still fragmented, far from linear and hardly compact.
Cry moar to someone else.

Why don't you go chat up Cortana? Maybe she'll tell you how avant garde you are. Really out in front of the curve are you? First kid on your block to have Windows 10? I'm impressed. Not anywhere near as impressed with you as you are, but impressed. (or perhaps not).

With respect to wine aficionados, those that really think they know it all, are sometimes referred to as "cork sniffers". With respect to acoustic guitar know-it-alls, (You know the type, "my guitar is better than your guitar"), they're referred to as "sound hole sniffers"

Those things said, it seems to follow logically, we can count you among the ranks of, "the COA sniffers".

I know enough about computing to have avoided Vista, as well as Windows 8. I also had people actively proselytizing their adoption. They told me I didn't kmow anything about computing then either. And yet here I am, muddling through.

Must suck ...

to be you.

to be you.
Oooh, you're so fabulous, I wish I could b just like you! What is your job description anyway, M$ cabin boy? What sucks is having some little two post wonder / shot bag, talk down to you.

The only part of my life that sucks, is having to listen to one..

@jobeard : Thanks for the backup! (y) Unfortunately, once again, I took the ad hominem vs., ad hominem tack. I'm going to hop in the shower and try once again, to wash these damned spots off...;)

@captaincranky - - just consider the source, sigh, and then take a brandy. The ad hominem stuff drives me nuts too, but then we need to practice what we preach, don't we :giggle: Stomp on the fallacious statement with good facts and the membership will know who is who.

All they have to do is keep the security updates mandatory and drivers updates and anything else optional.
Sadly Microsoft really just do not get regression. .NET 4.6 replaces the JIT engine with a new faster one. The new 64-bit JIT engine has critical data corruption flaws. The new framework affects all versions from 4.0 up - that is EXISTING CODE. Yes that is right. They break existing release code in 4.0, 4.5, 4.5.1, 4.5.2.

They also have a tendency nowadays to push frameworks via Important Updates so the exact same risk as hardware drivers. So far 4.6 isn't there yet but if it was put there, the change would be catastrophic.

No different than the
"I stand by XP til death, because it's the only true Windows OS" soldier cry.

So yeah, to you ... it makes no sense.
Well, it makes more sense than pissing away money on 6 or 7 copies of Windows 10 to reequip my computers.

The OS they booted into the world with, is the OS they'll be recycled with.

Now, if I've interpreted your posts correctly, you're about 15, you have one computer, and it's either the god you pray to, or the father you never had....

Surely there must be other tech sites on the web, which would benefit more from the largesse of your wisdom.

'Cause after all, there's nobody here but us Luddites.

I've already upgraded and rolled back to Windows 7 as Windows10 was constantly freezing at the desktop (with a '3-pin reset' required)
