Windows Media Player won't open

A friend sent me a DVD from Australia ("Underbelly") and when I put it in my DVD it said Region Code Error. So, I put it in my laptop to see if it would work and clicked on Windows Media Player. Nothing happened. I tried everything -- I tried to run it an administrator but still absolutely nothing. What should I do?

(And, if WMP will work, will I be able to see the Australian DVD on my system?)

You are in the pickle created by the cinematic industry who are trying to stamp out piracy. Being young and fairly stupid, the people who thought this idea up totally fail to grasp the implications of this sort of thing in a fully-connected world. They expect you to buy the DVD in your own localised version.

I suspect there are any amount of downloadable players capable of playing illegal DVDs, but this site has a policy of not advising on these things as far as I know, but you may get lucky.
