World of Tanks creative director fired for publicly supporting Russian invasion

What just happened? While those within the tech industry are throwing their support behind Ukraine and its people, World of Tanks creative director Sergey Burkatovskiy has come out in public support of Russia, a move that has resulted in his firing.

Burkatovskiy revealed his stance in a now-deleted Facebook post, announcing that he supports "the operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the DPR [Donetsk People's Republic] and the LPR [Luhansk People's Republic]."

But it seems Wargaming, the company behind the popular MMO, certainly doesn’t feel the same way. A day after his post, Burkatovskiy posted another message confirming he had "broke up with the VG," with VG translating to WG, or Wargaming.

PC Gamer notes that Wargaming is a Belarusian company that employs hundreds of developers in Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv. It told Russian gaming site Cyber.Sports.ru that Burkatovskiy’s view is his personal opinion, and that it categorically does not coincide with the position of the studio.

"He has been let go and is no longer at the company," it added.

Wargaming added that it is now focused on helping its Kyiv workers and their families. The company’s Kyiv studio has already made a $1 million donation to the Ukrainian Red Cross that will help support hospitals, doctors, and displaced citizens.

"At Wargaming, the safety and security of our employees is the top priority. Currently, all available company resources are helping and supporting our 550+ colleagues: providing them with alternate housing, early salary payments, additional funds to aid travel and relocation."

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has seen Wargaming temporarily halt its global advertising and redesign ads to remove images of advancing tanks and other military vehicles. Advertising has now resumed with the new assets, but it is still on hold in the Ukraine "as we believe it is inappropriate and insensitive to advertise our games while it is the centre of this conflict."

There has been a barrage of responses from the tech industry to the Ukraine crisis, from Elon Musk claiming SpaceX could stop the ISS crashing into Earth following Russian sanctions, to major crypto exchanges refusing to put a freeze on all Russian citizens’ accounts.

To some extent I can understand people living in Russia and its puppet satellites supporting the offensive, because their media is state-run propaganda. I even know at least one leftist American imbecile who buys the whole anti-Nazi fairy tale spun by Russia. (Then again, he works at a comic shop so he's conditioned to living in a fantasy world.) The US media is also heavily biased and mostly controlled by the Democrat party. When they failed to push the Russian collusion lie in order to oust Trump they teamed up with Big Tech to try and steal the election (and most likely succeeded). It's ultimate irony that Wargaming as a company will be brought down and even possibly bankrupted by those two stalinists. I was playing very little in whole of February. Was just waiting for defecation to hit the fan. Moment I knew it for 101% was when they reported white Z letters and lines painted on vehicles. It was 'Oh F*!' moment. That's trick old as modern mechanized warfare. In fact employed first by Soviet army during 42-44 offensives like famous Bagration. For folks not familiar - you paint fluorescent white (usually) back side of vehicles. Either letters I, N or Z. Then you drive in the dark without using any lighting. You see only vehicle in front and you follow it at full radio silence. Keeps the element of surprise, preferably to infiltrate enemy lines at night without being noticed.

For ye who never took college nor any of the political sciences, you would be wise to brush up on your assertions. Anarchism is extreme leftwing, further to the left than even socialism. Anarchism is diametrically opposite to fascism. Therefore, you cannot be who you claim. Nor can you claim to oppose both ends of the spectrum while also claiming to support one of them. It really is an either-or quandary and you are forced to correct your post.

People are getting harmed though. It takes a special kind of evil I wouldn't want to work with either to say those things. That's the beauty of freedom of speech, you can say what you want, just be prepared to be accountable for what you said. Freedom of speech isn't a free pass to say bomb on a plane for instance. The level of isolationism I see being forced on Russia without even the consideration of their very reason for invading Ukraine is the same irresponsible action that got Japan to launch the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Well I for one good Sir, do not accept your assertion - lets use the guy in the street knowledge - none of that fancy collegial thinking . Leftwing is a highly control govt( with highly democratic ( everyone votes on everything ) to very little ( what we normally see ) - The govt owns most of the assets and sets people wages - normally healthcare, education etc are free ) . Anarchistic systems are well less defined and come in multiple flavours - from pacifists to ultra violence . There main component is as little govt interference as possible - now we don't really have examples of this as even crime families have governance . Anarchy appeals - but needs strong moral people , needs to expel the bad apples and once a population reaches a certain level you will need ongoing collective work - before join to together build a bridge - go back to farmlets . Liberaltarians and ultraright wing - religious sects - also express a want for minimal governance . As for leftwing - maybe hippy communes - just want to do their thing - have their rules and law - their own schooling with nothing to do with a kid being 5 years old
