Another reason why cache exists is power consumption: A memory access has much higher power consumption than a cache access.

Funny article given Intel themselves said they are working on something similar to v-cache for future cpu's. Pretty pointless in the extreme as it proves absolutely nothing about Intel performance with hypothetical v-cache. The cache differences used as examples were tiny 33 vs 36MB etc. Are you kidding me. And no I don't own Intel at all.
