X rolls out changes to block button, allowing users to view accounts that blocked them

A hot potato: The block function on X has now joined the long list of things that have changed since Elon Musk took over and killed Twitter. Now, blocking someone won't prevent them from seeing your public posts. All it does is stop them from interacting with you.

It was revealed last month that X was making a major change to the block button. No longer would it perform the traditional function of stopping someone accessing your posts, leaving comments, and so on. Instead, it would just stop people from liking, replying to, and reposting content, which they can still see, essentially making it more of a mute button.

Now, X's engineering team says it has started to roll out the change to the platform's block function. Instead of blocked users seeing a "You're blocked" message on accounts, they now see a message stating "you can view public posts from [the account that blocked you], but you are blocked from engaging with them. You also cannot follow or message [the account that blocked you]."

Musk has long complained about the block function, saying it makes no sense and needs to be replaced in favor of a stronger form of mute. He's even called for the block button to be removed altogether, except when used for direct messages.

X says the reason it is changing the block button is because its functionality could previously be used by users to share and hide harmful or private information about people they've blocked. It also said that blocked users can already see and interact with accounts that have blocked them by switching to a non-blocked account. The company claimed the move was part of its commitment to "aligning the block feature with our principles as a public town square."

Responses to the news have been almost entirely negative. Several people have pointed out that people block accounts for safety and security reasons, especially when it comes to women being harassed by stalkers and trolls. The fact that someone who is blocked can still see what you post, take a screenshot, and post it themselves is particularly concerning.

There are questions over whether the change violates iOS and Google Play store rules. Apple states in its developer terms of service that apps containing user-generated content must offer the ability to block abusive users from the service. Google, meanwhile, says that apps allowing "interaction with specific users (for example, direct messaging, tagging, mentioning, etc.) must provide an in-app functionality for blocking users."

For anyone thinking this is inconsequential, one of the very few and very limited ways to try and stop targeted harassment was preempting blocking, usually with a block list but sometimes just knowing you've been tagged by a big account with the intention of getting others to harass you.

Now it's basically not possible to actually stop that from happening unless you limit your account or turn it off completely, which I'm sure that's what Musk will take away next because he is intending for harassment to continue as a political tool.

For anyone that gets routinely targeted site's unusable now, which I'm sure that's what he intended.

They have this magical setting called "private" where only people you are friends with can view the content on your account. Funny how that works.

Did you not read the article. It's as simple as setting up a dummy account to start viewing again without issue.

There are only two U.S public figures I wish they could just d** and one of them is certainly Musk with his world destructive behavior.

>makes a company around green energy technologies
>Company is actually profitable
>does more to help the environment than the majority of first world with said company
>somehow also destroying the world

I've done a lot of drugs in my day, but I'd really like some of what you're smoking

It's time the left learned what it's like to be harassed on a perpetual basis. So, I hope you are correct.

Let's correct your statement:
- "part of the" Company built around green technologies MANDATED BY STATE OFFICIALS FOR TAX CREDIT PURPOSES.

X/Twitter is profitable?
Ha ha ha....stop joking please

He does more for the environment?....Are you talking about Elon Musk? The same individual that is currently supporting even more fracking in Pennsylvania?

Obviously your pink tinted glasses can't let you see reality.

I'm talking about the Elon Musk that's currently selling more EVs than the rest of the world combine while also stabilizing the electrical grid in Australia with Tesla batteries. Also installing tons of solar, bought a Lithium mine that isn't run by slave labor but pets talk about Fracking in PA, my home state. I'd LOVE to hear your opinion on this subject.

Few corrections there mate.
The rest of the world has overtaken tesla in selling electric cars now.
And the battery in Australia is only a small one in a smaller state. It helps, but it certainly is not the one thing that stabilises the grid. There’s been a few hiccups as well along the way.

Not to take away the amazing accomplishments he has done, but maybe tone the love to just the facts.

Telsa led the development and commercialisation of EV’s for the world.
Telsa designed and installed a battery system in one Australian state thats assists with managing the local electrical grid.

Wait , wait....is he really selling more EVs???...or most of the anti Chinese super powers including the U.S are helping him sell more by putting higher tariffs on Chinese made EVs that are actually selling better.

Let's call things for what they are and let's not skip over the details if you are serious about having a conversation....lol

I have something to say about it. For all intents and purposes, Elon Musk is about to become POTUS. You have to realize that Musk is not an innately "charitable person". You also have to realize the Musk could never be POTUS, as he's was born in South Africa.

However, he's got boxcars full of money to use in getting a "useful fool" elected. This may have already happened

For those who wanted Trump to be reelected, I would caution, "be careful what you wish for".

Someone high up must've been getting blocked and didn't feel like switching to burners to see what they were saying
It is very easy making a new account. In fact, I am sure that people whose job requires seeing accounts of people who often block, all have several.
The old option was laughable. It was for drama queens. *There, you upset me, and now I forbid you to see what I write. I hope your feelings are just as hurt as mine*

Profitable Twitter was the platform of progressive hive. Bend the knee to progressive god and your platform will receive money and approval. Reject the only "true" god of America, and profitability will become the thing of the past for you and your platform.

Now it's basically not possible to actually stop [harassment] from happening unless you limit your account or turn it off completely...
Nonsense. If a person can't interact with you, they can't harass you. They may be able to convince someone else to harass you -- but that was possible under the old system too. Nothing's changed.

... which I'm sure that's what Musk will take away next because he is intending for harassment to continue as a political tool.
No, it's called free speech. The old Twitter instantly banned anyone who deviated from a certain political point of view, and even illegally accepted money from the FBI and DOJ to censor true, but politically damaging content. Thankfully, that's ended now.

I thought at first this change was bad, but reading into it seems to make sense. The person who blocks you could really do all kinda crap without you knowing it
