Xiaomi designated a 'Communist Chinese military company' by U.S. government

yeah but "tariffs on China" is simply a play of words, since all it does is to punish us the consumers.

You want a better solution? Undo whatever Nixon, Reagan and Clinton did.

Demand that the local corporations produce the goods locally.

Punish those corporations that do sh!t like this to avoid paying taxes, etc, etc.

But tariffs on chinesse goods is simply lip service and more money for the local goverment at the expense of us the plebs.
that's the opposite of what corporate america and Trump stands for. the china tax was just a bluff that only hurt the US. but this way the prices in the US will grow to be more in line with the rest of the world. maybe no more 1$=1eur crap for the EU

The US is being very naive, all this will cause it more Asian markets to buy more Chinese goods over US goods.

The CIA did to some terrible things in past administrations... many years ago. If we judged every country currently by their poor (and shady) decisions of the past, we'd have a perpetual world war. That logic is a common fallacy that wouldn't suit Germany too well, would it? Let's learn from the past, and judge from the present.
This is incredibly delusional. The CIA is world's largest terrorist organization today.

Thats the flawed mentality that plenty have.

You want to boycott China? start with the corporations that made that possible.

Perhaps start it with their biggest customer, Apple.

The sad reality is, both our corporations and government failed us in the pursuit of wealth at all cost, without looking at the consequences.

We no longer have factories, we no longer have a way to manufacture goods locally at the same level and price than China can.

The solution? I dont know, but it would help to re-invest back in our own country, but that will be hard, given that we literally have the best "government that money can bribe, err, buy".
I wonder, if someone finds that our government is paid of by China, would our honest media platforms even allow this news to get out? No no no, I believe they will do the right things, like they've always done. After all, business is business, but the people come first.

I'm not American, but comparing America and China is taking things too far.
China has basically annexed Hong Kong now.
When Chinese citizens object or stand in front of tanks they get slaughtered or locked up without any proper legal process.

Oh trust me I'd love to undo what Nixon did I would be perfectly on board with us extending diplomatic recognition to Taiwan and revoking our recognition of the PRC. going so far as to revoke our acknowledgment of the PRC at the United Nations and pressuring the United kingdom and France to also revoke their recognition of the PRC. Ideally what I'd like to see is us to play a third of our attack submarine Force to initiate a total blockade of the Chinese coast and form all Nations and states that we're implementing a total blockade except for humanitarian supplies that must only be transported by red Cross ships. announce that tell the world that these actions will take effect at 72 hours and any ship that does not stop for a search will be fired upon and sunk in any ship that is not a red Cross recognize ship will be immediately commandeered. That's how I'd like to see us deal with China.

As an american that is not a rabid patriot, I would say, that whole post is why we have such a negative image on the whole world.

laws exist and all that you described is clearly acts of war and forcing your will unto others.

imagine if china or another country pulled the same sh!t close to our coasts....

rambo and the other movies are not historical documentaries.

don't think China wouldn't block at airports in a second if they actually had the military capability to do so.

The Last person who tried to fight China lost his presidency, 400,000 citizens and Trillions of dollars.

I don't pick fights with people who I owe money to. Especially when they outnumber me more than 4:1.
The fact we elected the modern Caligula does not factor nearly as much into your last two points. At least not when it comes to China.

Its not about 'individual consumers', as lot in this thread seem to assume (yes, China has more), but access to financing and technology. You admit yourself to losing money on Chinese stocks because of the recent US economic policies. That didn't happen in a vacuum, that was the result those companies being denied US technology and US capital. Now the same is true of Xiaomi (if the decision holds through November).

The US doesn't need to be a manufacturing center when they control a lot of the world's bleeding edge IP and a massive chunk of its investment capital. These moves are designed to protect those positions, so I don't think Biden will reverse them. He'll take the gift of being able to blame the decision on Trump, and pretend that his hands are tied if anyone asks.

I would rather live in a world dominated by evil American corporations than in a world dominated by evil Chinese ones.
