First debuted in 2004, the PIC was intended to become a low cost, easily deployable and rugged platform that could be used worldwide to bring computing to everyone. With much of the focus on other projects, especially the OLPC, AMD has chosen to cancel the PIC, with interest waning . It was a very rugged piece of machinery, but a little too soon for its time and better technologies were just on the horizon. No word on how much excess inventory is left or when the last day for shipments will be.
