Micron Technology today announced an update to its RealSSD lineup of SSDs, with two models targeted at both the corporate enterprise and laptop markets. The C200 series is one of Micron’s first aimed at home notebook owners and uses the typically slower but cheaper MLC NAND process technology.
In a departure from many SSDs to date, however, these drives offer a 3Gbps SATA interface and impressive 250MBps read and 100MBps write speeds. The RealSSD C200 drives will be available in 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch form factors, with densities of up to 256GB and 128GB respectively.
Micron also unveiled the RealSSD P200 series for servers and other enterprise-grade uses where read and write speeds are more important than capacity. These 2.5-inch drives range in capacity from 16GB to 128GB and use the faster single-level cell (SLC) NAND technology to boost write speeds to the same 250MBps rate as the read speed. Micron hasn’t said how much either drive will cost, but the firm expects to begin mass production of both later this year.
